Ever see a gun and the first thought that comes to mind is, "Huh"?

Saw this in a shop the other day and thought I'd post some pics to get some other thoughts on it. I like the fact that its a 4" round butt, but what's with the porting like its a 2 1/2"

I wish I could have looked more closely, but didn't have the time. Not sure if it was a square butt modified to round butt or a 2 1/2" round butt with a 4" bbl added. The frame is an early gun 66 dash nuttin', so not sure if the 2 1/2" was available just yet. It has the early stainless rear sight, but noticed it has a red ramp. It also has standard ss hammer and casehardened target trigger.

I guess I better go back and take a closer look. The porting looks professional, but why there?

Anyway, here it is for your viewing pleasure..................

Well, it is different. I've never seen porting that far back from the muzzel. Makes you wonder how it would affect velocity, energy, recoil ..etc....

Lot's of things to be questioned about it. I look forward to hearing folks with more knowledge than me chime in on this.

Well, another thought I had upon first seeing it was accuracy had to be right out the window since the barrel would be forced downward before the bullet ever left it.

Oh and the price, they only wanted $595 for this work of art!

Just when you think you've seen it all, something like this comes along................:p

To me, it's a gun that needs a new barrel-pressure vented before the bullet is really moving. Also makes me think what other "crafting" might have been done..Given that straight 66s aren't very expensive,I'll pass.

My thought is, "OWWWW!" Can you imagine the hypervelocity, superheated blast of gases and particles that rockets out of that abortion?! The only thing "professional" about the, ummm..."individual" who did that is that he had access to a milling machine. Too bad he had insufficient adult supervision!

I don't think I would shoot that one, the barrel is scary thin in that area. That is a real dome scratcher.

Remember the pistols in 'Logan's Run'? I'll bet this revolver belched brimstone and fire like those rocket guns did.

Is it just me or does it look like its never been fired since the "improvements"? Theres not a speck of carbon in those cuts.

The reason may be that the first time you fire it, you may have two very large oblong ports on the barrel. It looks like it is REALLY close to the rifling.

The scary thing is that some shop owner would associate himself with such a potentially dangerous monster for the sake of a few dollars.

WHY??? OH Why? I also agree with the earlier post as to what kind of dealer would even consider selling this as a firing revolver.

For my headscratcher, I was at a Tulsa gun show and spotted an N frame revolver with a six-inch barrel with Patridge front sight blade, but a fixed rear sight. I picked it up to take a closer look at it and asked the guy behind the table, "What am I looking at here?"

He said, "Says on the barrel it's a .45 Cal Model 1955." And so it did, but I realized that the frame was a 1917 with the lanyard hole plugged. It was someone's "bright idea" for a project, but what they had in mind I don't know. The big front blade was a terrible mismatch with the small round-bottom rear notch, and who knows where in the world it might hit for elevation.

I told the fellow what it was and he said he wished I'd been there earlier when he took it in trade, and asked me what I'd give for it. I couldn't really give him an answer because it wasn't worth squat to me, and was probably worth less than the sum of its parts. Goofy.

What a monstrosity!

Fortunately, a new barrel could put it right. Price would really have to drop for it to be a reasonable proposition.

It would make a dandy cigar lighter. :p

"... that abortion..." term from an earlier poster hit the nail on the head.

Take that barrel off, thread the sight end and use it for a garden sprinkler.

maybe if you could get it for 150$ get a new barrel...

really crude amateur porting job .

what a shame.

a round but 4 incher (sans extra holes) would be nice.

6 bills seems very high for a mismatched gun that needs a new barrel. At least that one can be fixed.

This Model 29 was seen in a local pawn shop and had quite a few folks scratching their heads for some time. We never came to a rational explanation of why someone would drill holes in those locations. To the shop owners credit he refused to even offer the gun for sale but was keeping it as an oddity.

Early lock attempt. Why put it in a secure place, why use one of those Master locks that sandwiches the trigger...just put a big 'ole padlock through the handy hole.
