Don,
More valuable and rarer than the J frame which wasn't introduced until Oct. 1960 as the Model 35-1 and Kit Gun as 34-1. The I Models of 1953 New I frame .32s & .38 S&Ws became J frames with a -1 in 1961.
This is the most confusing issue of the 1950s I frames. You have a Model of 1953 22/32 Kit Gun 'New' I frame. Yes, it has the egg shaped trigger guard and 1/8" longer grip frame (takes J size grips), but still has the I size short window main frame w/short cylinder.
This is a comparison of a 22/32 Kit Gun 'New' I-Frame Model of 1953 (bottom), and a modern "J-Frame" Model 63 Kit Gun (top). Note the differences in frame length in front of the trigger guard and the cylinder length.
This shows the common main frame size of a pre-war 'original' I-Frame 22/32 Kit Gun (top)and a 22/32 Kit Gun 'New' I-Frame Model of 1953 (bottom). Same size main frame window and cylinder.
