I did some searching and didn't find much on the forums in the way of recommendations for holsters for extra magazines. I'm looking to carry and extra magazine with me and was wondering what the best options are for the SD9VE and SD40VE double stack mags are?

I only carry an M&P .380 and found a leather knife sheath w/a snap closure works great for an extra mag. I pocket carry and the sheath just looks like a working knife to the casual observer.

I looked as you and finally took a chance on barsony single magazine pouch for compact, they have several different sizes listed on drop down menu. [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E3XWRSI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00"]Amazon.com : Barsony Single Magazine Pouch for S&W M&P Shield : Hunting Gun Holders : Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41cpktx7UDL.@@AMEPARAM@@41cpktx7UDL[/ame] I purchased it for my Shield and was surprised when I also tried my M&P9c mags and they worked both the 12 round and also the 17 round for full size. Price was okay would have been better without shipping but I ordered a couple and shipping charge did not change to much, but the product arrived in a timely manner and it works well for me as I Conceal Carry and wanted something for extra mag that didn't stand out as mag pouch, I wear it OWB and it just looks like a knife case.

I have an uncle Mike's kydex double mag pouch paddle style it works good. I don't plan to use it anymore and am willing to part with it

I like and have been using for about 20 years the Safariland Model 123 horizontal mag holster......it lays on top of the belt.... Velcro flap for easy on and off... IIRC only about $18

I use an OnYour6 IWB

I made my own based on a Glock 17 pattern. They were easy to make. Do not use a Glock 19 pattern though. The leather shield is too short and the butt plate of the mag will dig into your waist.

what he said. I have 2 leatherman pouches and several swiss army knife pouches, all do a great job. and they are perfect fit and zero cost. Most places have a military surplus store that probably would carry stuff like this at a reasonable price.

I have a BlackHawk nylon holster w/built in mag pouch on the front. Got it at WalMart for about $15 I believe. It's a size 5.

For the price it's nicely padded and works very well. It's set up for OWB, but I have a rigger belt that it works on well where I slide it onto left hip for cross-draw.

Comes with a plastic tool that keeps the Velcro from sticking to adjustable slide strap for different gun types or slide lengths. Once you find position for strap you like, you remove the tool and put pressure on Velcro, the strap won't go anywhere.

Are you using it for concealed carry or for shooting in a match? The knife sheath works well for concealed carry, for match shooting you are better off with an open top either kydex (Blade-Tech, Uncle Mike's) or leather double mag pouch, if you need more than that carry two double pouches. ie. USPSA matches. IDPA limits you to two magazines plus the one in the gun.

Don't know if that helps you out or not.

I use an Uncle Mike's Kydex on my gun belt. I used to mount the snap-top Bianchi dual single stack, but I decided they're less practical.

I'm planning on using it for concealed carry.

I got this at Academy. The adjustment of the Velcro strap allows it to securely hold all my single and double stack mags. I wanted this style because it can be oriented either horizontally or vertically. I like horizontally best.

GunMate® Accessories Universal Single Mag Pouch | Academy

I saw a slightly better quality version from a different brand at Walmart for five dollars.
