Are extractor rods the same size ? I’ve been seeing them listed up to 2-2 1/2” and 2 1/2” and larger , some for certain models . I’m looking for an extractor rod for my 22mag cylinder to fit in my 17 . It appears gunparts corp , brownell , midway , etc. are out of everything as far as extractor rods. I recently saw an add where the rod was said to fit k,l,&n frame . Are extractor rods sized to frame size or interchangeable between k,l,n frames ? Educate me please.

Don’t know about diameters for different frame sizes, but what I think you are seeing is different length rods for different length barrels for the same frame size.

For example, there are 2 1/2”, 2 3/4”, 3”, 4” and I think 6” Model 66s. Iirc, 3” and longer barrels take the same length extractor rods.

Also, blue extractor rods for blue guns, silver for SS guns.

In general, the same non-mushroom knurled-head rod works for K,L & N 3" or longer. A different shorter rod is used for 2" and 2.5" barrels. Blue for blue guns, SS for SS guns. Minor fitting may be required in the area of the knurling.

To make it more interesting, in the 1959-1961 time frame the ejector rod thread pitch was changed from RH to LH. The early pitch rods are scarce.

J frame rods are a different smaller diameter.
