Alnamvet68 has has several threads about food so it's my turn. Whilst not every day, there are occasions where morning eyeopeners are appropriate/needed-ie Mardi Gras, Sunday morning brunch after that Saturday night out of town wedding and so forth. So what's your favorite morning eye opener? You can pick more than one.

Even before moving to these United States, after a night out with too much rum and too little sense, my wake up would be a tall glass of water with a heaping tablespoon of Andrews Liver Salts....basically a less polite British Alka Seltzer .
Even today I advise the younger generation on the benefits of eating first, not mixing their booze{3 things in a glass, one being ice},drink lots of water and 2 Alka Seltzer before bed to stop the spinning mattress.

When I was in my teens, I once asked a known rummy when he knew for sure that he was an alcoholic.
His reply was "When you want that drink first thing in the morning."

Nothing like a Bloody Mary to shake off all that bloody mess in one's head. Here are the ingredients:

3 celery stalks (super fresh & cruchy)
36 ounces of V-8 Spicy
1 large lemon juiced
Grated rind of the just squeezed lemon
1 tsp of Sea salt
12 or so dashes of Tabasco
2 cups of Armadale Scottish Vodka

Pour everything except the vodka & celery in the blender. Give it a quick second or two whipping.

Pour in a tall glass 1/3 of the vodka over crushed ice, and top off with blended ingredients. Stick a stalk in the glass and serve. Repeat as needed, and often. drunk.gif

Double shot of Wild Turkey sort of did the trick for me, why mess around.;)

Quit in 1986 not because I had to, just lost interest, will have a beer now and then.;)

Haven't had a drink for over thirty years, so getting my eyes open is usually accomplished with a couple of mugs of strong Italian roast coffee.

If you need more help than that, try equal parts of either Spicy V-8 or good tomato juice and sauerkraut juice. Smells awful, but it's delicious and will damn sure slap you awake.

Now: a bowl of Menudo, and a shot of Tequila.
Back in the old days with a Medic available: an IV of D5 and a good shot of O2.

Replace the vodka with Tequila and you have a winner.

Hot coffee...if abit of hangover,to the garage for a couple hits of oxygen from torch tank works wonders.

Like Sheryl Crow once said, I like a good beer buzz, early in the morning.

Sets the tone for the whole day. Coors light is best for these purposes otherwise it's lights out by 6 PM.

Hanging out at the car wash. lighting match books??:D

Even when I drank last thing I wanted to see or smell in the morning was more booze or beer.:p

I really like orange juice but to put Vodka in it makes me sick.

Coffee please.

Can't remember the last time I awoke feeling under the weather. I will, on occasion, have a bloody mary if I take the mrs. out for brunch.

Back in my younger days when hangovers were a common happening (& still today when I celebrate too much) ....I found an Alkaseltzer on ice with a slice of lemon to be the best thing going. ;)

Don

It's been many years since I have done this but this recipe does the trick.

Full glass of ice
Celery Salt
Lemon Pepper
Worcestershire
Dash of Tabasco (optional)
Good quality vodka
Clamato Juice
Garnish with Olives, Celery, Mushroosms etc.

This and a beer chaser will open your eyes every time.

For a hangover a very tall, cold, strong Citron bloody mary with a large scoop of horse radish served with 2 loose eggs over, 4 slices of greasy bacon and crispy home fries buried in hot sauce.

Actually, a good fire and brimstone sermon, followed by Sunday School, will usually get Sunday morning started off right.

Don't need it for eye opener but damn it tastes good, Irish creme whiskey in coffee, standing around a campfire at daylight in the mountains.

when I was in the usafss, stationed in merry ol' england, Friday and Saturday nights at the enlisted mens club were par-tee time. I would be ripped on a regular basis. Next day, upon regaining consciousness, I would struggle to the chow hall and attempt to eat a spoonful of mashed potatoes. if i could keep them down, i knew i would be ready for another round of good times.

Eyeopeners.........

toothpicks work wonders --- however they do make it hard to blink.

When that doesn't work, milk punch (we make ours with real vanilla ice cream, good brandy, creme de cacao, milk, vanilla flavoring) or ice water with a little Rose's lime juice and an Excedrin
