EZ 9mm with overactive disconnector.

Hello all. New forum member. Joined while waiting for a repair to come back.


The wife was interested in finding a 9mm carry gun and was having some trouble with slide operation. I had read about the EZ and suggested she look at it. A couple of days later we are testing out her new gun. 9mm EZ with thumb safety.



It was great except for some failure to fire events. The trigger had a light click as it went all the way back and it was not releasing the hammer. It was as if the disconnector was being activated. We confirmed that it was fully in battery with thumb safety off and grip safety firmly held. You could then get it to fire if you released and pulled the trigger again once or twice.



Oh, I did spray the gun down with a CLP before testing so I don't think it was due to shipping grease.



This happened with both magazines and I also used snap caps to demonstrate the effect without a magazine in place.


We already called support and the gun just arrived at S&W this morning.


Mostly just wondering if anybody has seen this issue. My searches did not find reports of this being a common issue.



Note that we are both very happy with the gun and hope S&W find the issue so that this can be a dependable carry gun.

Updating in case somebody finds it via search...


It was a 5 week turn around, including the shipping time.


About 6 magazines through it so far and it seems fully fixed. They did replace the disconnector.

I suspect that you are not releasing the trigger far enough for the disconnector to reset. Try lifting your finger completely off the trigger after each shot and see if that solves the problem.

I had to send back our Shield 9mm EZ would not fire at all right out of the box. Was just sent back last week.

Was definitely not doing that. I could fully release the trigger and then find it dead. As if the grip safety had been released, yet I was very careful to not release the grip safety.

Did it also seem to be that the disconnector was the issue, as in a "dead trigger"?

Or maybe a light or no indent on primer?
