Facebook...

You would be surprised at some of the most respected and learned members here, past and present, who are on FB. It is what one makes it.

facebook allows you to participate, voice your opinion and fact check certain news organizations. One might be surprised who may be paying attention. And it's better than yelling at the tv, pissing off the liberal neighbors, sleeping on the couch or discussing it with the dog.

Loves me some Facebook. Groups I belong to include vintage Boston whaler outrages, 13" Boston whalers, raising ducks and geese and so forth. Facebook marketplace is neat to browse and I've just joined houseboats-with a bunch of swamp dwellers living on various houseboats.
Also found a long lost cousin living in Key West.
It is what you make it.

I am addicted in my old age to Facebook. Two kids with the grandkids posting stuff years ago got me started and I am a member of about 150 groups. These are my interest, mostly gun related, from long range shooting to S&W pistols to reloading, then the boating and local lake forums along with what is happening in the local community. It is what one makes of it as Cagunlawyer says. Years ago one could buy and sell guns, etc but now the management is anti 2nd amendment. I got throw in "Facebook jail" for a week last month. Some guy on a reloading forum was looking for .311 bullets and I posted a link where he could find them and zap, in jail ( no posted, comments, etc) for a week. A lot of great facebook forums are now gone. Using the dollar sign or any discussion of money connected to a facebook post will get you in jail and possible the loss of that group. I still enjoy looking at my many 22LR forums as people post their best group all the time and brag about their $100 rifle shooting small ( really large) groups with their latest cheap ammo purchased a wallyworld. The things we do in retirement!

S&W, Ruger, Kimber and dozens of others. Car clubs, auto repair, ancestry, travel, board games, hunting, fishing, bird watching, runs the gamut.
Trouble makers, trolls, yep, just like anywhere else. Blocking them, just like here.

I've avoided FB like a plague, not really sure why, just really held zero interest for me. Then everyone I believe I know start talking about how Marketplace is so great, bought this and that one there for near nothing, sold tons of ****, etc...so I gave in..

Started my account, real name, real phone #, etc...all legit.

I got on there, trying to figure out what it is, then went to Marketplace. Quickly found a set of new take-offs, wheels & tires, for my F-150 as I was needing tires at the time, sent the guy a msg, was willing to go get them that day if he responded...then I just start looking at motorcycles, right off the bat I see that my friend was selling his Vmax, the only other Vmax in the area and we ride together. I sent him a msg that said "Damn bud, you're selling the Max?"

Bam, that was it! FB popped up with a screen that basically told me to piss off, it could not be appealed, and that my account would be deleted. I tried logging back on a few days later and was told that my account was to be delete with no further appeals available.

This all took place withing the span of about 30 to 40 minutes...I am still stunned and don't have a clue as to why!

Ok, fast forward to about 2 weeks ago, think I'll give it another try...nope, the things that popped up basically told me to piss off.....grrrrrr....

Long story I know, but I made a new account, all of it the exact same information, same email, phone, etc....

I can log in with my phone # but not my email. If I log in with my phone everything is fine, if I try with my email (that the account is setup with) it gives me the piss off screen....

I have zero clue as to why this is...

My vision of farcebook is an old lady sitting at her kitchen table, tongue hanging out, totally mesmerized for hours and hours reading all of the content.

Having said that I opened an account myself. My only reason was to be able to access businesses that do not have a web site, just to find out their business hours or read their menu. I have no friends. I access it only a few times a year.

Then it occurred to me that in addition to selling things on Craigslist, now I had an alternate venue in Marketplace. I always detail my first name and contact info in the writeup, and IN BIG LETTERS say that farcebook replies will not be responded to.

One time I had sold an item on CL and completely forgot about the FB add. Weeks later I went back to delete it and found I had a bunch of replies, some repeat replies asking me why I had not responded.

That's it. No more marketplace.

A Craigslist complaint would be emails from Nigeria or somewhere asking-
Do you think have those items? They have no interest in buying, they are just keeping track of the potential possibilities.
And after you post, I Will Not Ship This Item!
The still ask, Will you send it to me in Cincinnati?
But in spite of activating the dummy squad, I have bought and sold a fair amount of items on CL.
Once I ran a free come and get it ad.
Turns out the Freebie Folks are weirder than the cash folks.
Some of them demanded free delivery.
Some theory like when things are free why not include free delivery?

Facebook can be interesting. I liken it to reading the newspaper. have bought and sold locally on marketplace with few hassles. My hobby is to report lots of posts, especially the political and alleged scientific ones, as being false information or offensive. So far I have not been banned.:D
It is a great place to keep in touch. My family has a private group that keeps me in touch with news. I no longer send Christmas cards and such because I feel it is more meaningful to write a personal comment on the receivers timeline. Hallmak can go cry a river.
But I am amazed at the amount of misinformation that gets posted, intentional or not. I guess the FB fact checkers work only with their own agenda.

Really?

This is a social media forum,

https://smith-wessonforum.com/forum.php

Kevin

Yes, I suppose for all intents and purposes you could classify this Forum as social media - got it. That said, I do not think it is even close to being as well known or as common as FB, X, ISGM, TW, etc. I know that the main stream social media is where there are lots of issues and would like to think that many hackers and scammers don't even know this Forum exists. OK - that maybe wishful thinking but to the best of my knowledge I, nor other members I've talked to have had any issues. I am sure Big Brother monitors this and other gun Forums from time to time, but we are not doing or discussing anything wrong so we should be fine.

Every time we log onto a website, open up a credit card, register a car, fill out a credit application, etc. we open ourselves up for hacking, loss of privacy and potential issues. My wife and I are as careful as we can possibly be - but still allow ourselves to live life - cautiously of course. The only way to really secure yourself is to literally be off the grid for many years.

The popular and common Social Media sites is where I personally have drawn the line.

I like the FB for the ease of staying in touch with friends around the world that it provides. I sell on marketplace from time to time. You will get inundated with messages, and i often check profiles before ,I respond because there are lots of people from outside the country who want to nuy your stuff right now....all in all it works well

Sell the knives here.

FB's police algorithm is pretty subjective. I've only been mailed once and that was for reposting something that had already withstood scrutiny. I sometimes wonder if FB jail got access to my SW rap sheet. :D

Years ago, at the urging of relatives, this Luddite got a Facebook account. I never used it very much. Somehow I got the attention of some ne'er-do-well who decided to hack my account and use it to spread a virus. I deleted my account and I am never going back.

Thinking about a FB account to sell some of the late wife's nice antique china. None of the kids or grandkids want any as they got what they wanted months ago. Had forgotten about CL.

We had to dispose of both my MIL's belongings and then some of our stuff that we didn't want to move to Texas.

We were surprised at what didn't sell. Dishes and furniture have a very limited market. Clothing even more so. We had to hire a company to clear out MIL's apartment because we had to be out of there by the end of the month.

We tried for months to sell a beautiful dining room set and china cabinet from our house to no avail. Again, no market for it.

Places like Goodwill in our area didn't want furniture. I will say that it seems to be area dependent as when we got to Texas we went to various Goodwill stores and saw things in far more worn condition than what we had trashed for sale.

It was a shame, but it had to go, so it did.

When you post for sale on Craigslist it's not Gun friendly.
For years in various other places I have added I Trade For Guns.
On CL I have added Trade For Big Boy Toys.
It did work once! One in a row!
Traded a Camera for a 649.

My daughter Whitney is an Occupational Therapist in Dallas and visits children in their homes and we were talking a couple of days ago about what's wrong with kids today. She told me about a visit she just had with one little girl, and the little girl said" I'm so glad to see you because you come and play with me!" Whitney said when does your mommy play with you? The girl thought about it and said "she doesn't, she's always on Instagram.

A Facebook story...

My nephew's house got broken into...when the sheriff came to investigate it was found that the nephew's wife had "posted" on Facbook the previous day: Tomorrow I am going to get my hair done at 9AM, then stop at bank, then get groceries...should be home around 2PM...the sheriff stated "Why did you do that?" You basically told the burglars everything they needed to know and knew your house was an easy mark! Why is it so important to tell the world what you are going to be doing???

Which method I choose to " move" all the china and furniture will state they have to go to a storage unit in a Very secure facility to look and pick it up. No home address, was not born yesterday. lol.

I've been on FB mass years, also have a X account, and TicToc.

Had a few posted deleted, but never been banned on FB yet. Lot of cool groups on FB...S&W, Vintage Firearms, Retro AR's, 22 Firearm Owners, Harley Groups, and my favorite Stuck on St. Augustine Beach. Others take pics of people with their trucks and cars buried in the sand. Sold and bought a few things on Market Place too.

My mom is 88 and is addicted to FB.

Unfortunately I pretty much got caught up on my Facebook yesterday. Extended waiting time at the Ortho's office. By the way, cortisone shots in the wrist area hurt.

Plus I need to rethink something. I'm right handed and I now have a wrist brace on my right hand that makes holding a handgun in my right hand impossible. I'm confident I could shoot my little Hellcat left handed sufficiently for common realistic self defence ranges, but I have no left handed holsters and a major clumbsy factor getting it out left handed. At this point it would be a "retrieve with fingers of right hand and then transfer to left." Several extra steps there.

I have an old leather J frame IWB clip on (Bianchi #5CL) I used to wear about 4:00 with the grip forward, a method I decided I didn't like. Trying it AIWB leftie I guess it works but I'd need a lot of practice. Then there's the 5 shot thing and reloading with strips I couldn't retrieve with my rignt hand from a pocket.

Oh yeah, we were talking Facebook, sorry! When waiting in a doctors office some of those Facebook "Reels" can be interesting. I like the surfing and boat Reels and some of the wing suite ones and some of the STOL aircraft Reels. Although it's getting much harder to tell which are fake.
