Factory Grips for Pre 29

Hi All

I have an early pre 29 (165xxx) but don't believe the gun has the factory grips. Can you tell me if the grips in photo are original? If not, what should I be looking for to return to factory? Do the grips shown have any value? Also, would the gun originally have come with a presentation case?

Those are post 1968 targets. The pre M29 came with "Cokes", which have a small palm swell and more checkering coverage.

Depending on when your 44 Magnum was shipped, it would have been accompanied by a dark blue to black presentation case with a powder blue satin lining. The mahogany case was introduced for the 4 and 6 1/2 inch barrel lengths in the spring of 1960. See photo below to see the typical case and accessories. Click on the photo for a better look.

The items you need/want are not cheap.

The Cokes will run you 400+
Probably why they are missing.
The case is 500+

Ebay gunbroker or the classifieds here can be sources.

Not to worried about the case unless I run across one at a decent price or possibly a repop. Currently have it wrapped in a oil rag in a case.

I do want to find the original grips to return it back to factory.

Would there be red lining in a black case? The Pre-29 I have has the case with red lining.

The lining in the dark blue/black cases was always blue satin. Red material is a replacement for the original.

Those stocks you have may sell for $100 - $150, which may take a little of the sting out of the price of a set of Cokes.

Keep the oily rag off the stocks.

Set up a grip fund for the 29.
Once you get to 250-300 on hand put your grips up for the additional 125-150 sell price.
Then u have 400+ to buy a set of nice orig Coke
grips for your 29..
Then another fund to get a orig case that
pops up..Then send it to jcelect member
here to refurb the case back to orig condition..
