Hey Folks, ...Have nickle plated "5 screw" 2" pre 10 dated to 1948-1953. Noticed the trigger & hammer are also plated w/very minor peeling. Rest of gun plating is in very good cond. Anyone know if S&W plated trigger/hammer at factory in those days. They don't on todays guns. Thanks in advance for your help & feedback. GAP 1 (George)

I have an excellent factory nickle M&P made in 1947. On mine there is a "N" for nickle in front of the serial number under the barrel just above the cylinder rod. Mine has case hardened hammer and trigger. I hope this helps.

The factory NEVER plated (or blued) hammers or triggers. Period. That's always a sure sign of a poor refinish.

George - here's my Factory nickel from 1951. As others have said, case colors on hammer and trigger - also there will be a "N" stamped on the grip frame under the grips for original nickel gun

You're right.

But

but

but....

You're wrong.
Read Roy's old .357 Mag article.
A nickel Reg Mag was ordered with nickeled hammer and trigger. That is probably the only time they ever did it, but they did it on that gun. ;)

Edited to add-
I'm just showing here that once again, S&W negates the word never.
Unless you find THAT magnum, you are safe in assuming a nickeled hammer and/or trigger is NOT original.

Never say never with Smith and Wesson, as far as I know they never plated they pre 1960's hammers and triggers but they plate the hammers and triggers in some of the early stainless pistols.

Tim.
