factory trigger pull is horrid!!!

so many people have had really bad triggers? mine is a SHORT pull and VERY crisp. no pull that doesn't engage the trigger and breaks great.

yes they are

I spent about 8 hours between making the 15 minute trigger mod, polishing the hammer and other trigger parts, and the mod to remove the travel on the trigger pull.

In addition, I also polished the edges on the bolt guides and gave the recoil shaft (the medal piece that's attached to the bolt with the spring around it) a polish job

The bolt and trigger pull, and firing are much smoother.

Thanks to everyone who provided the links and advice.

I also did the "Trigger Creep Video" technique and it helped a ton! love it. Bought the set screws for my buddy's gun, and upon installation found out his hex-head grip screw was longer than my flat-head screw, no worky.

My delivery of the JP springs should be here any minute now. I polished the controls with Flitz and now going to be installing the springs with the Hogue grips.

Did you put the Flitz on and work the action or did you Flitz polish with a Dremel? I'm curious to hear from anyone who polished with a Dremel.

i used paper and breakfree oil

I used 600, 1500 grit and crocus paper with breakfree oil.

The only time I used my dremel was do some fine touches to remove the ridges and cresses left over from the molding process

I used a Dremel. Applied Flitz and used the felt tip wheel. No sanding. Just applied Flitz and Dremel away. Came out shiny and smooth.

I did the whole hammer face and the rest of it. On the trigger I did the front part of the block where it is already polished a little. Basically where I saw material already gone. I just polish them up for smoother feel. I did the disconnector as well. All mating surfaces.

Put the trigger together while it is out and you will see where all the parts contact each other. Those are the places I did most of the polishing.

Perfect. Thanks!!!

finally did a little shooting after installing the yellow spring kit....all I can say is WOW! tons better, now it's time to do a little polishing and I think I will be happy with the trigger.

I must be missing something here. In the Trigger Creep video, the only time creep was noted was with the weapon on SAFE. My trigger has no creep in the FIRE position. Why should I care about creep in the SAFE position, when I can't fire the gun that way? What am I missing?

My new 15-22 also exhibits zero trigger creep, as new, right from the factory. The trigger is also light enough for me just as it stands. Perhaps S&W is getting better with their triggers OR, maybe I was just lucky with this particular specimen. When it is time to clean the trigger, I will probably pop it out and polish it up.

I think he was just showing how the mod made the trigger move backwards without inadvertently dry firing the rifle.

The mod reduced the amount of trigger creep by about 50% in my rifle, but like some of you, I didn't have a lot in the first place. I just did it out of curiosity to what type of results I could get.

I shot my rifle yesterday and today, putting about 200 rounds down range and didn't have any FTF or FTE.

Don't think so. He showed the creep before he did the mod, at the very beginning of the video, and the weapon was on SAFE. Mine has lots of creep on SAFE, but absolutely zero on FIRE.

Well, the reason is, "It's a Combat Rifle Trigger". Again, it's the same trigger on a full size AR15. Now it's on a 22lr plinker, customers complian how horrible it is. Go and spend $200 or more on a 3.5 lb trigger or drill, cut springs, and open another BLOG on "My M&P miss fires".. Get a glass trigger on your M&P and after you have an accidentle discharge on your foot, open a BLOB on "How un-safe the M&P is".. Same people who want a CADILLAC STS but want it to go OFF ROAD and handle like a CORVETTE... ALL IN THE SAME CAR, I want, I want... life is a compromise folks...S&W can make the trigger smoother, but it will add to the overall cost of this rifle.. Oh then another BLOG,"Why is S&W so EXPENSIVE"... OK, I'm off my soap box.. I'd like to see someone build the BEST AR 22lr with all the GOODS and sell it for under $400! enough said..

I agree with Aceman, I also was one who installed the JP yellow spring set to get a better trigger pull (it did bring it down to 3.6 lbs.) but then I was experienceing miss fires. I changed back to the orginal springs plus the polishing I did should help. I would rather have a rifle that goes "bang" every time rather than a very light trigger pull and wonder if it's going to fire! Just my 2 cents.

I really like the trigger on the 15-22. Don't own an AR-15 yet, just had a lower parts kit and am hoping it's similar in pull to the M&P :)

I went to the range today (Tues. 11-22) and after reinstalling the orginal trigger springs I was pleasantly suprised, out of 120 rds. I had one jam (stove pipe) & no missfires! I was shooting Winchester Super X HVHP's & CCI Blazers with out any problems at all! :D So from here on out, I'm sticking with the stock factory springs, I want a rifle that goes "bang" every time I pull the trigger!
