Failure, failure

Just got off the phone with S&W. After almost 2 weeks my M&P 15 is on the way back to N. Carolina. The spokeswoman told me they replaced the barrel and ejector. This is 2nd time the ejector has been replaced on a brand new gun. First time replacement for the barrel. Please dear GOD smile upon me.

I am willing to bet the extractor was replaced out of GP, rather than it actually being faulty out of the box. Extractors are cheap, and they probably have a metric bucket-load of them in the shop. Not worth taking any chances at this point.....change every small part that might be the issue.

But the barrel......................... S&W switched from using their own dedicated in house barrel production to getting barrels supplied to them, in addition to their own barrel stock. This, I can see being a source of problems.

Fingers crossed for you!!;)

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I've never had to use S&W customer service but my understanding is they are one of the best and WILL make it right. Once you get it sorted out and your putting 1000's of trouble free rounds down range you will love it. My ORC has been rock solid, but should it develop problems I know S&W will handle it. That was one of the reasons I settled on an M&P.

Sounds like gas system issues, maybe a poorly drilled gas port, or maybe problems with the gas system in the front sight block or the gas tube itself, or even the key on the bolt carrier. You were right to call up S&W again and turn it back over to them.

Great suggestions.......... but it sounds more like a crummy rifle.

Got my box back from S&W today. That's right just the box, no rifle. S&W is trying to track it down. Fedex was the carrier. Way to go. How can all this be happening? I wish I had never seen that rifle!!!!!

Wow is right! Was box sealed back up? Was tape missing from box? Did it look tampered with? Jeez.

Look on the bright side of things. S&W will discover it's been stolen, collect on the insurance, and send a new rifle to your FFL. The new one should work out of the box without issues.

I had a used Model 29-2 just plain disappear during shipping back from Smith in 1977. I'm still shooting the replacement.

An article I read lately indicated this has been happening more and more, to the point there's new guidance to be very careful about the labeling on a firearm shipment to make it less obvious the box contains a firearm.

I'm so sorry all this stuff is happening to you, Whacker! Like my Dad says, if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

Unfortunately, the rifle's serial number is registered to YOU. TSA warned me once when shipping firearms as luggage that the containers I had weren't really very good. Their concern was stolen items. You could, I'm sure provide clear documentation that the item was lost in transit to clear you should the 'worst' happen, but it still makes a nasty day for you. And demonstrates how futile gun laws are. On the bright side, there is a chance that the lost/stolen rifle still functions poorly, and if so, the joke's on the perp...

The brown reinforced tape had been unsealed, opened, and two pieces of clear packaging tape used to close the box again. S&W promised me they would make good on it. Funny thing though, the box did not have a return label on it anywhere. Never had anything this costly lost or stolen from me. Feels kind of like a death in the family. I guess it's a waiting game now.

That is unreal. If you were home when it was delivered you wouldn't have accepted it! Was it sitting on your front porch where someone could walk by and see it? Maybe someone in your neighborhood saw it and took advantage. Either way it sucks that a gun is in the wrong hands and registered to you. Did you contact the police to cover yourself and let them know what happened?

On the bright side; you have no rifle with which you could end your misery with...... (Had to; sorry!)

Man, you are having all the luck! I hope this is resolved quickly; if the box was sealed, I am betting money on money it was during shipping. That...... be a class 1 felony and I can only surmise that the person who took liberties was likely on camera somewhere if they are a shop like Fed Ex.

While I agree that most criminals tend to more of the 'non-intellectual' type, assuming that there are no cameras on the white van, it would be very easy to open a package that says Smith&Wesson on it, take the item, retape it, etc. Sure, the tracking knows which truck it's on, but all the delivery person has to say is that they delivered it.

Remember, innocent until proven guilty....

Delivered with no signature required?

Hell apple requires a signature for an iPhone shipped by FedEx. Why wouldn't S&W?

I'm sure you already know this, but be sure to save the box and anything that was in side. Contact S&W immediately, as well FedEx and your local PD. Be sure to get a case # from all concerned parties. I'm sure S&W and FedEX will stay on top of this as they don't like dealing with the ATF anymore than the rest of us. Keep us posted on the outcome.
