I was thinking along the same lines as DCP...... Also in my thoughts were, how in Gods name does on drop a box, then (obviously) pick it back up and not notice a big black AR15 on the floor next to it???? Something stinks worse than a week old 20 pound dead carp sitting on a pile dung here. I wonder if you can rearrange the letters in FedEx to spell out cover up?

Think about it now .... It sounds more like a fairy tale.
The key here is, he was happy to receive and kept a Damage Rifle that works wonderfully now.

Yes, he was happy to finally receive his rifle. No, he was not happy to keep a damaged rifle, hence he called S&W. Yes, he was happy to keep a rifle that works wonderfully,After S&W sent him replacement parts for those that were damaged, at no charge.

Sounds like FED-Up found their mistake and got him his rifle, S&W made good on their promise to fix his rifle and sent replacement parts when others were damaged in shipment, and the OP is now happy with his purchase even though he endured much aggravation to get to this point.

May be a Fairy Tale, but it's got a Happy ending. :D
Whacker, glad to hear all is good with the world. Good shooting.

After 35 years in Law enforcement. I will tell you there are so many holes in this Fairy Tale...... Now I just happen to have a revolver carried by Custer at the Little Big Horn I will sell cheap.

You can believe what you want.

Safety tape was cut on the box from S&W (supposedly) and then retaped
By law rifle would have to be reported to BATF for a trace.

Now it was just sitting around FX do think a call to S&W with the serial #......

Way to many holes in this Fairy Tale.
