Failure to feed victory 22

I am returning to shooting after a 12 year hiatus and I purchased a victory 22. It's not the model 41 that I stupidly sold when I left shooting but I do like it. I have put 300 rounds of 12+ year old CCI and Federal Match thru the gun and initially had fte and ftf issues, I did the recommended modification for fte and it solved that problem but I still have ftf issues. I really don't want to send the gun back to S&W unless I have to, any recommendations? Would polishing the feed ramp help? It seems to happen with both supplied magazines. Would switching to New ammo with higher velocity help? I recall that with the model 41 there was a magazine lip adjustment, would that help the victory?
Thanks for any replies.

I had the same issues until I switched to CCI mini mags. After that she's been flawless, I hope you have the same experience.

rfsod48 Welcome to the Forum. Some of the Victory handguns need a slight bit of adjustment on the extractor. Most of the owners who have this problem use needle nose pliers to bend it a wee bit more for pickup or extraction of the bullets. Tandenkross also sells a replacement extractor for this model as well which works extremely well once installed.

I had FTE issues with my new victory 22, 3/10 on most mags.
I nudged the extractor inward just a touch and 400 rds later no more
FTE.

I shoot either CCI standard velocity or bulk pak Federal 36gr hollowpoints in mine and it runs great. I would shoot some CCI mini-mags through it and see how it functions with them.

I recently purchased a Victory SW22 target model, it's on its way to Smith and Wesson now, mostly failure to fire (light strikes) and occasional failure to eject. Frustrating since it's brand new. I tried cleaning it and three different brands of ammo all to no avail.

brt62 Welcome to the Forum. I suspect a small tweak of the Extractor may help your gun as well. I would pull the grips and look for any grease that may be still there. CCI-SV is the best target ammo out there in my view. Hopefully the Mothership will send it back all tuned up for you.

brt62 I had same issues right out of the box. Sent it to S&W and it took 5 weeks but it was end of July and they shut down for 2 weeks. They replaced the extractor and have not had any issues since I got it back. have probably 3000 rounds through it and no issues. People say to bend extractor but I think they mean the ejector. Extractor is probably 1/8 in. thick.Ejector is thin piece of stainless.

It's probably going to be a few weeks for me as well, they're shutting down for a bit for Christmas. I was hoping to get some shooting in with the gun during the holiday. Thank you for the info.

Too all, I had all the above problems with my new Victory. Rather then send it back to Smith, I thought I'd try a Tandomkross extractor. Problem solved. I know we shouldn't have to put in new parts to a new gun, but it was better than having to send the gun back and wait for it's return. This is not meant to be a knock on Smith, but I know a couple of shooters that have sent their guns back and had the same problems they had b4. Hope this was helpful.

I had to tweak (bend) the extractor on my oldest Victory and after that, it has been flawless. My newest Victory has been flawless from the start. I shoot mainly Federal AutoMatch.

I have one purchased back in summer I personally have run 500 rounds thru mine. CCI Blazer with no problems. My son has fired maybe the same amount thru it and grandson fired 300 thru just a few weeks ago with out any failures. Maybe it's your ammo causing you a problem.

Its usually the extractor and not the ammo with this problem on the Victory model. We have seen this a lot on here since the model was 1st put into the market place. 99% of the time its the extractor not bent to the correct angle.

I got the Victory back from Smith and Wesson a couple of weeks ago and it's working much better. They replaced the barrel and hammer according to the paper work I received.

I'm wondering about that too. The only thing I can think of is the chamber had a problem.

I bought mine in 2016 and had problems with both FTE and jamming. The extractor adjustment with the pliers fixed the FTE issueand going to a higher velocity round fixed the jamming. I originally was using TAC22 and they were terrible. Switched to 1200+ muzzle velocity and issue went away. I later discovered that after about 1500 rounds I could use the TAC22's again with no issues. Now into the 2000+ round range and the Victory will eat anything I give it.

I no longer fire Thunderbolts as they are filthy and leave lots of lead.
