Bodyguard 2.0 Polishing

Mine is 7-19-24 and still has the ridge (unpolished) but so far it hasn't choked on anything including WWB 95, Hornady Critical Defense and Underwood Xtreme 68 .

Where exactly is the ridge? Mine is 08-30-24 and chokes on Hornady Critical.

Mine actually had a ridge (lip) at the top and bottom of the lower feed ramp. Polishing carefully with cylindrical felt pads and polishing compound took them off without changing the contour of the ramp.

After a couple of failure to feed issues, especially with Hornady Critical Defense hollow points, I was a bit disappointed with my Bodyguard 2.0.

I called S&W about my recoil spring assy and asked if there was a known fix for FTF issues. They said no, and that I would have to return the gun to them for that. I mentioned how the lower feed ramp looked and asked if polishing it would void my warranty? I was surprised when they said no, just polishing it would be OK.

So, after reading threads where others had polished the lower feed ramp, I decided to give it a try. I concentrated on the lower feed ramp but also did the upper (barrel). The lip on the lower ramp polished out pretty easily. Pics below show before and after results. I can now manually rack a full magazine of Critical Defense hollow points through it without a FTF and it's as smooth as butter. I'll be heading back to the range later this week to give it a real test.

I got mine about 5 months ago and it had the ridge. Regardless I had no issues with cheap HP and flat nose after 600 rounds. I just picked up some Underwood 68 grain monolithic ammo. They look like Philips head screws. Well when I would rack it by hand it would fail to feed on the ramp intermittently. To me it was the split between the two ramps not the ridge. I still removed the ridge and polished it up and it still sticks on the space between. I figured out that if I keep one of the four edges of the bullet tip facing up on all the rounds they load perfectly. As many have already said, only use round nose or round hollow points for self defense. I'm confident my Underwood will work but I wont buy it again and most likely will just use them and get something else that has similar velocity to the Underwoods rated at 1200 FPS and that are as round as possible. Corbon Ammo makes an HP called Pow'RBall that has a round insert on the tip for reasons like this. My worry is will it still expand with the insert. Even if it doesn't its rated at 1100 FPS so it still penetrates.
