I remember a few years back when a new member posted about his new S&W replica. He seemed very proud of it, but the guys pretty much booed him away. Turned out he was from a country where it was pretty much impossible to own a real handgun.
Well, I just bought my first replica. It is a near copy of a SAA.
It has grip screws and only two action screws but looks pretty authentic otherwise. Weight and balance are very close to the real thing. Since I can't get out and shoot like I used to this is a nice, fun substitute. I sit on the sofa and shoot at bad guys on TV. ( I don't dryfire real guns in the house ) I'm practicing twirling but I'm not nearly as good as Michael Biehn on Tombstone. :) Most fun I've had since before my last heart attack.
So don't make so much fun at the replicas, they can serve a purpose.

Some of the replicas are very well done.

My wife has a Colt Buntline Special that you can't tell from a real sixgun unless you look down the barrel..........only to see it blocked off..

They make nice displays, etc.

Congrats on your new toy!!

I have a late 1980's Daisy Air-Soft replica of an Uzi which is ridiculously real looking, even close-up. I bored the end of the barrel out to complete the illusion. People assume it is real until they touch it.

yeah .. thats how the Japanese go about their gun collecting.
Most of the airsoft stuff is a direct copy of Japanese designs

Generally if I want a gun I buy the "real thing". I do have a S&W M&P CO2 gun though. It is realistic enough that it'd get you killed if you tried to commit a crime with it. (I am not into crime).

I found a really cheap 1911 at a flea market. Turned out to be a pot metal replica. Works great for molding a holster around and it's a lot cheaper than a blue gun replica. Now all I need is a real 1911 to go with the holster.

So, it looks like Mr. Lawyers post got pulled, perhaps wiser minds thought it inappropriate......would you mind deleting my response as well? It now appears that Caj and I have an extremely close relationship and I would prefer, though he's a nice guy, to set the record straight.......Thank you in advance!

I don't know about replica guns, but it does seem like a new guy posting a sincere question gets laughed off this Forum all too regularly. :(

It does happen, and those are definitely not our finest moments. One thing everyone everywhere should keep in mind though is if you ask someones opinion, be prepared for them to answer!

Some people forget that they were not born with their super gun knowledge and probably asked far more stupid questions then the new guy.
We are a little community of firearm ENTHUSIASTS not only gun owners. There are plenty gun owners with barely any knowledge besides that they should not look into the hole where the flash comes out

I can personally recommend a RIA 1911. They make good solid guns at a reasonable price, they have a lifetime guarantee and their customer service is reportedly very good. I have 2, one I keep set up with a kimber rimfire conversion and a 2011 rail gun I use as a range gun. the 2011 had quite a bit of trigger creep before I had a gunsmith rework it. Other than that, no complaints except they put their logo on the slide in big letters.

JKellogg, I'd really like to afford any gun I want but it just ain't in the cards. I think I'm gonna start looking for a replica Colt Walker. Ringo's Clint Eastwood thread inspired me. For dang sure I can't afford a real one. ;) BTW, I'm not sure if the pictured guns are Walkers or Dragoons. Any help?

@JKellog

Actually they changed the design, Rock Island Armory is only stamped on it, it is easily removable without any traces

They look like Walker Colts to me.

Notice the difference in the cylinders, the dragoon has a shorter cyl. Also the loading levers of Dragoons is latched to the barrel.

I've been eyeballin' an RIA .45 Standard GI 1911. Looks good, just gotta raise the money for it.

Something like a Navy Colt

I don't do replicas but if I did something like a pair of Navy Colts to hang on the wall would be cool. In reality I'm working hard in the opposite direction trying to get the 'stuff' OUT of my house.
