Now that fall is here, and the sun angle is changing to lower for us in the northern hemisphere, the sunlight has that reddish tinge of fall. To me it is a magical happening as the northern hemisphere gets ready for the upcoming winter. In many ways wish we could avoid the harshness of winter but that is one part of a great cycle. Glad I have lived most of my life where there are four definitive seasons!
Of course don't ask me in January and February! 😞

Everything you say is true, although speaking for myself, I never wish to avoid Winter. When the air is so cold it's as if ice crystals hang in the air, or when it snows and it's quiet in the woods, it's as if the Earth is cleansing herself. Personally, I love it, and take every opportunity to get out in it. And when you come inside, it seems the fire in the fireplace is warmer and more cheerful, and the coffee is more calming and stimulating at the same time. Did I mention that I love it?

Note, too, that it's beginning to get dark earlier now. Only about 38 more days and we get to escape from the curse of Daylight Saving Time for a few months!

There is nothing prettier than Christmas lights on a Palm Tree:eek::eek::D:D:D:D

10 years in Rochester N.Y.... Can't say I miss winter;)

I've noticed the redness in the Eastern dawn for the past three days and have never experienced it before and are amazed.

One thing I do miss about living in Northwest New Mexico is Fall. Beautiful when the leaves change and the temps drop a bit. Do not miss winter, cold hurts. Living in Florida now, temps have dropped from high 90s to mid 80s, got to find that parka! lol

The play of light and shadow in the afternoon is one of the few signs of the seasons changing in So. Florida. After Irma's passage a slot of dry air moved in making a noticeable difference. Temps have barely made the 90's, the humidity has returned but oddly enough I haven't mowed the grass since before the storm and it's not as of yet a foot high.

Thanks, walkinghorse and others, for the reminder of the magic of approaching autumn here in our half of His creation. The interplay of the light, crispness of the air, and the beginnings of color on the leaves make this my favorite time of the year too, and further remind me that Nature, while not God, is of God, and can so inspire us to contemplate and be grateful to Him.

Glad your relocation went well and your enjoying the new digs. :)

Your Black Hills have a fifth season that ushers in Autumn, Motorcycle Classic season, when the streets of Sturgis turn Harley Orange. :D

Even the Badlands join in with the Harley Orange theme.

Yes just mowed ours again yesterday. 2nd time since hurricane. Being I put 50 years in central florida (right on coast) You pretty much mowed year round. This will be our 2nd winter in north florida . I noticed already grass has slowed way down. End of October I wont have to mow here
