I spoke with mom earlier tonight and I've agreed to come home for the family reunion. I've not been to one since before I left for basic training back in 1984. I'm thinking you know, it might be nice to see my moms side of the family after all these years. Though I'm not sure how the polka band fits in with my moms
Sweedish heritage. Lol My dad used to wake my brothers and I up for school by playing polka music really loudly. Never really liked it much but it will be nice to see family.

I grew up on a farm in northeastern Colorado. After the harvest season someone would have a Dutch Hop. That was basically clean out the barn, fill a couple of horse troughs with beer and ice and have a polka band. The older people would dance.

You don't see too many Dutch hops any more.

Thanks for the meemories.

I have RFD TV on my DishNetwork and often watch a bit of Molly B's Polka show.

My question is WHY do they wave hankies during the show???? I was in Kosovo for two years and during wedding parties and the like, many would wave dish towels and would also wrap dish towels around the windshield wipers of the cars in the procession.

My Uncle Floyd loved polka music. When I was a kid and we visited him on the farm, I helped him milk cows. He'd open the barn doors, and the cows would file in to the sound of Polka coming from a radio station somewhere in Minnesota. After the cows were in their milking stalls with the milking machines attached, Floyd would milk one cow by hand, and the cats would show up for their morning treat. I'll never forget those mornings. I don't listen to Polka, but it brings back good memories. Thanks for the reminder.

Later this June I will be attending mt first family reunion ever, & I'm looking forward to it. However, Polka music has not been mentioned!

Roll out the barrel, we will have a barrel of fun.

About a hundred fifty years ago I was a volunteer firefighter with a very busy department. We had a fine young fireman named Szymanski--big, burly, handsome kid, quiet and gentle but fearless and strong as a bull.

Some of the guys were teasing him by telling Polish jokes one evening, and he just listened for a while and smiled. Then after a while he said, "I have one for you guys. Know what's all bloody and goes thump-thump-thump against the wall? The next man here who tells a Polish joke."
