Fashion Police Timeout!

Read the links...The shirt did NOT violate the posted dress code....
JIM............

sorry...i did not read the links admittedly because I caught the story on the news and didn't recall correctly, apparently.

However...it remains...the shirt is not why he was arrested, regardless of dress code at this point.

Being a *&#%)(&*^# to a teacher, and causing a disruption is where he got into real trouble. There was a right way and time to argue his point and make his case...and this wasn't the right way.

I don't understand this. We, collectively, whine and gripe about the disrespectful youth of today and that they need discipline for it...it comes, and we moan about it.

Throw him in jail.

I watched the follow up report and Snake is correct.
NOT prohibited. Nor, should it be.
Some teachers and school administrators need to take a breath.
While order needs to be maintained, we really do not need to turn schools into a board of education socialist prison camp.

Cuffed & stuffed for arguing? Is this the new norm?

Not so much for the arguing....but being a disruptive nuisance and preventing other students from learning and god forbid, a teacher doing their job...TEACHING instead of babysitting and being referree.

Let me say that I am sure being a teacher is not always easy.

The report said the teacher approached this kid in the cafeteria.
Why not just give him detention? Police involvement on something like this seems ridiculous to me. Am I off base?
Is it common to actually arrest kids for arguing?

The teacher had no common sense. Why didnt he just say follow me to the principals office or tell the student follow me to this empty room and we are going to discuss this. I think he was trying to make him a example to the other students and it blew up on him.

No disrespect to teachers, in fact quite to the contrary. I believe teachers deserve a ton of respect................................until they disrespect the child.

In this case, based solely on the article. I believe the teacher made a serious error and was actually the cause of the riot. Why? The teacher confronted the student in a very public spot of the school and according to the article raised his voice first. Did the student wear the shirt with intent? I believe so.

Was the student a known trouble maker? No, in fact he is an honor roll type of student, therefore probably rather smart and would have the cognitive ability to realize he is going to get a response from authority (teachers or school admin) by wearing the shirt.

Did the shirt specifically fit the banned subjects? No, but the intent of any ban is to restrict confrontational or "hot" topics. So the student probably knew he was pushing the limit.

My question, why couldn't the school/teacher just pull the student aside and explain that the subject matter was not appropriate for school and that in the future that type of shirt was not acceptable and would not be allowed? I have to admit, if I was asked to turn my shirt inside out and wear it I would object..............strongly!

I believe from what I read that the teacher caused the disturbance; not the student. I teach my children to respect others until they're given a valid reason not to. That seems to be the case here.

How about the teacher showing a bit of respect instead of trying to bully children? Perhaps the teacher should have been arrested instead of the student.

I do not wish for my children to obey an idiot no matter what their official position.

If the NRA or gun ownership is a confrontational or 'hot' topic, then we gun owners better get a lot more confrontational than we have been, if we want to keep intact what rights we have left.
