Somewhere, Good Common Sense needs to Prevail!

Student reportedly arrested, suspended after argument with teacher over NRA shirt | Fox News

Being arrested for wearing a "NRA" t shirt is not what I would call "Good Common Sense"! Where was the Principal who should have called the parents before the Police? Do schools not believe in Detention Hall anymore? I know that there is always 2 sides to a story, but a Police record for a NRA T Shirt?

My .02 Rant... Thanks

I read this a couple of days ago, and am still trying to figure out what he was arrested for.

I can see him, because there was a picture of a gun on the shirt, being suspended or expelled or sent home, because of that stupid "zero tolerance" ****.

But to be arrested, there should be a crime committed, right? What crime?

I agree, and on face value, they had no right to do that.

However, there is a chance we don't know the whole story.

It could have been one of the unruly, bad kids witha NRA shirt on. Hey, it could happen, I just hope not.

I always figured that West Virginians were very conservative. Could be a teacher from New York City??? *New York CITY?!?!?!*

Like the cowboy that turns the security system on, on his horse.

If this is a good kid, I hope he gets cleared, the school district sued, and some folks fired.

New York CITY?!?!?!........Get a rope.

Reminds me of this story from Canada, where a four year old drew a picture in school of her father holding a gun. "He uses it to shoot bad guys and monsters", she explained. Father was handcuffed, then taken to the station and strip searched. Turns out, he didn't even own a gun. That's how paranoid some of my countrymen are about guns.

the article stated that the student spent the first half of the school day in his classes without incident. then an opinionated teacher confronted the student, made a scene and had the student arrested .

14 year old student vs. teacher...yep no contest.

my wish is that the legal system becomes involved, takes the individual teacher, principle and school board to task and awards the young man and his parents 50 million dollars in damages and have the subject teacher give a public apology to the student .

I'm well aquainted

That's very true. I know a kid that raises office referrals to suspension levels and suspensions to police involvement levels.:(

Empty Holster Campaign!

I wonder what would have happened if this student had been wearing a empty holster?

Google it!

I am not by any means implying that a 14 yr. old student should conceal carry, but to express a view point in a non-violent, non-aggressive manner is a basic fundamental right of every US CITIZEN!

He was arrested for being a disruption and arguing with the teacher.

While I support the NRA...the school has a dress code. And a zero tolerance policy. They were enforcing rules already in place. He willfully broke them.

He should not have made it that far in the day before being told to change. Should have happened when the first admin or teacher noticed him. So of course he was going to argue and be a little snot when he was told...the day was almost over.

Having said that...I would likely have been one of the teachers who would not have noticed.

Read the links...The shirt did NOT violate the posted dress code....
JIM............

I understand that most school districts have policies that prohibit profanity or indecent graphics.
How does a basic NRA tee shirt violate a district's decency rule?

IF it does....local residents need to take a serious look at the existing policy...and those that make policy and enforce it.

I watched the follow up report and Snake is correct.
NOT prohibited. Nor, should it be.
Some teachers and school administrators need to take a breath.
While order needs to be maintained, we really do not need to turn schools into a board of education socialist prison camp.

Cuffed & stuffed for arguing? Is this the new norm?

Update, of sorts:

W.Va. Teen Arrested After 'Almost Inciting Riot' Wearing NRA Shirt to School

First paragraph:

"A West Virginia teen arrested and accused of nearly inciting a riot after a confrontation with a teacher over his National Rifle Association t-shirt has inspired dozens of students across his county to wear similar apparel in solidarity."

I'm in favor of school uniforms or at least something sensible. Shirts with collars for boys and decent pants even if they're jeans. Girls get the same deal with a skirt option if it's at least knee length. No shorts for either boy or girl. Shoes, no flip floppers. No advertising or political or religious statements on anything.
This kid knew he was gonna cause an issue by wearing this shirt. (even if he found the school apparel loophole) Once approached by the teacher he should have complied and reversed the shirt. Once the kid engaged the teacher as an equal he was out of line. The teacher never should have approached the kid in front of his peers. The teacher should have notified the principal so he/she could decide whether or not to call the kid to the office for a discussion on the matter. Then the whole thing would boil down to calling his parents if necessary instead of police.
