Favorite bourbon?

I think Jack Daniel's nailed it. I lived in the great state of Tennesse (Franklin) for a while.
Jack is in a dry county!
I think the Tennessee sour mash is the stuff dreams are made of.
A friend worked for Jack and could get the stuff before it was watered down and bottled. Essentially moonshine, but WOW!

Sir, I've tried relatively few bourbons: Jack Daniels (which is not actually bourbon, BTW), Jim Beam, Bourbontown Club, Evan Williams, George Dickel, Bulleit, Maker's Mark, Knob Creek, and probably a few others that don't immediately come to mind. Of all those, I much prefer Maker's Mark.

Somebody on this forum suggested Evan Williams, so I tried it out. It's actually better than JD! To top it off, it's one of the least expensive, even cheaper than Jim Beam, usually.

I don't drink nearly enough boubon. I buy more than I drink, which leads to a storage problem around here. Its OK, there's always room for another bottle or two!

In my dismal past, I worked for Schenley Distillers. We even had a tasting lab, which I participated in regularly.

But my drinking habits allow me to have bottles that have even been opened for a few years that only go down slowly. I have friends who come over and never see the good stuff because they feel an open bottle needs to be emptied.

Oh, back to my favorite, and its on the border of heresy. Its not Kentucky Bourbon, its just bourbon. Its a now discontinued brand known as A H Hirsch. Hirsch was a Schenley executive who distilled and aged it in the hills of PA. When I bought my case, it was selling for $59.96 less the case discount. Now its over $100 a bottle.

There are a bunch of interesting brands on the market these days. If anyone is interested in trying them, I'd suggest Woodford Reserve Special Finish. They age it for the first 15 years in the virgin oak barrel, then they finish it for the last year in a used Chardonnay barrel. The finish gives a slightly unexpected taste.

Personally I also like Jefferson Reserve. Its not a bourbon lovers brand, its a brand non-alcoholic's seem to prefer.

i love all the more rare older things when i get the chance to find one. but when everyone at the get to gether or party is drinkin there beer im sippin on beam i prefer the slightly sweeter after finish to jack but hell after 3 or 4 shots does it really matter LOL

Booker's, but it's too expensive for anything but special occassions. Ordinary times it's 9 yr old Knob Creek, or Jim Beam. But I'm not opposed to trying other brands.

How about the worst "bourbon" ever? Have you ever had/heard of Waterfil (possibly Waterfil-Fraizer)?

I really prefer Maker's Mark. As far as a Tennessee sippin' whiskey, I have a really deep appreciation for Gentleman Jack. The standard ole' No. 7 is good, but I can tell a difference in smoothness between the two. I prefer all of mine served neat; watered down whiskey or bourbon is like cream and sugar in coffee for me. It just ruins the taste.

Jack Daniel's is not bourbon. It is made in TN and not KY, and as such is Tennessee whiskey and not bourbon.

But to the question at hand, I prefer Maker's Mark and Knob Creek.
