I'll just say it......I really enjoy food and really enjoy cooking. Like many cooks, I transition my food by season to match ingredient availability. Given this fact, l'm beginning to wrap up my winter menu and getting ready for springtime. This is always a tough one for me as I really like comfort food. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be braised beef short ribs in a red wine and vegetable sauce over egg noodles. I know there are many comfort foods to choose from but I was wondering what you would pick as your #1 choice.

For this time of year for me these two are on the the top of the list....

Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Tomato Soup
PA Dutch Chicken Pot Pie.... no crust involved here! ;)

These are my two winter favs when I don't know what I'm hungry for?

mac n cheese mixed with sauteed cut up hot dogs and onions
Virtiniai's (Lithuanian Meat Dumplings)
Polish Kapusta & Kielbasa

Winter - breakfast, lunch, dinner: oatmeal w/ banana, chicken noodle soup and veggie beef soup, meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green veggie.

Spring - poached egg over rye toast, shrimp, tuna, or shrimp salad over a bed of greens, fresh caught fresh water fish with rice and Effie's.

Summer - vanilla yogurt with berries, Caesar salad with grilled chicken or shrimp, grilled steak and shrimp with grilled veggies.

Fall - any of the above breakfasts, sliced roasted chicken or turkey breast with sautéed apples in agave syrup and cinnamon, pasta and meatballls and salad. Or stir fried protein with veggies and cashews.

All served with a glass of red or white wine from my favorite local wineries.

Bison. Bison steak, Bison burger or Bison meatloaf.
Nihtsi kiyistoi iinii.
Me likem Bison.
In the summer, I'll throw some hickory on the grill, light a cigar and open a nice cold beer. Get the grill good and hot for a nice sear then reduce it to around 250 degrees and let it slow cook in hickory smoke 'til it's pink in the middle.

Guess I've misunderstood what "comfort food" is. The way I've heard it used, it virtually always was somewhat synonymous with "junk food" -ice cream, cookies, candy bars, etc. -sugary or carbohydrate-laden stuff with little or no nutritional value requiring no preparation, but which nevertheless taste great; and which offer temporary respite from stress, depression, anxiety, and so on. Well, life's lessons continue -and what's been mentioned sounds pretty good.

Carry on.

Tonight it's one of my favorite comfort foods .... braised pork loin roast and smothered in our ho-made sauerkraut...with real mashed potatoes and our fresh frozen from the garden sweet corn. Prolly a old fashioned or two... too!
