I know this will likely cause heated debate, but I brought popcorn that needs popped, so what is your favorite handgun caliber for carry? I think mine goes without saying, but I am interested to see what wins in the polls. My guess is 9mm or 45 wins, but I guess we will see :D

I meant to make this a poll, but I think it will better off without one, seeing as there are so many choices.

The Lord's Caliber

.45acp is my preferred carry caliber. I can't quite articulate why, but I shoot my shield .45 mich better than my 365 or any comparable 9mm pocket pistol. Plus if I cant sort my problems out with 8 rounds of .45, 4 or 5 more rounds of 9mm likely wouldn't have solved the problem anyway.

.38 Super in a lightweight Commander.

...what he said...lots of velocity with little recoil...

Have been wearing one daily for 43 years...hard to carry anything else...

Bob

one of the prettier ones...1951 in hard chrome with Nutmeg ivory grips...

Logical Carry

On the tractor, mower, working under the PU or any dusty dirty conditions rolling around in the dirt, it's the 357 and at times it takes a bath when I do. On road trips I like the idea of having more options than five shots even if I hope to God I never need them. It's a 9mm. Poor baby just doesn't function well with dirts and sand in the slide. Definitely not a down and dirty action gun.

Suppose things turn real ugly like they have in Ukraine. Instead of pristine clean conditions like we have in the U.S. I'll be carrying the wheel gun.

Full size is 9mm or .45 depending on mood. Most of the time it's a Shield in .40 that is much easier to pack around anymore.

it was the 40 then it went to 45 and now its 9mm, because I shoot the 9mm the best.

Admittedly, I like major calibers. My two "primary" EDCs are my S&W SC1911, 230 gn +P HPs and my Lou Horton custom ported K-Comp model 66 with 125 gn hollow points. If you do some research (and I don't mean You-Boob), no handgun round has the incapacitation index of the .357 in 125 gn going back to the 40s. .44 magnums and above were and never will be correct EDCs. I have personally witnessed the effectiveness of that caliber during my days "on the job". Drugged out felon, PCP, pointing a cheap sterling at the wrong LEO. One shot, left shoulder; the arm was hanging by some loose skin and the shock wave through the shoulder crushed his collar bone, driving it into his spine and disconnected his central nervous system at the base of his neck.

My major carry since way back when, has been 45 auto. An accurized GI 1911...then my Wilson Combat...but nowdays I carry a 4 1/4 inch Kimber...winter. summer I carry a Sig 365. Holds 12 and I can carry in my pocket without pants being around my ankles. I am sure many of you ol guys know...get old/lose yer butt
