I'm looking to replace my Shields 3 dot sights with something better for carry, e.g. Night sights of some variety. I have trijicon standard ol night sights on most of my carry guns but I'd like yalls opinion on alternatives. Any thoughts on XS big dots? What else have y'all tried that you like? Thanks!

I just put HiViz FO on the front sight. I do like the Truglo sights just a bit expensive for me.

Night Sights

I have the Ameriglo Hackathorn model on each of my .45 Shield and my 9 Shield.

That orange dot front sight really draws your eyes to it in the daylight and at night the tritium vial glows bright. Coupled with the plain black rear, you only have one dot to focus on. Which is the ONLY one you should be focusing on when the shot breaks.

I actually have the CLAW sights from I.C.E. (Ameriglo), but all of my other M&Ps have the Hackathorn Ameriglos.

I sent the slide for my Shield 45 off to Trijicon for their tritium night sights. I paid to have it sent to them. The sights, installation and return shipping was $125 total. Really like them. Show up well in daylight and of course, very bright at night or low light.

this is my mp fullsize 45 setup, switched from FO sight set. VERY happy with them, $50 very much worth it-Bill

You ask about XS Big Dot sights. I have them on both my 9 and .45 Shield. I see that big dot whatever the light better than other sights, and it appears immediately without requiring effort.

Truglo currently has a promo for their sights, with that and Buds Gun Shop the TFX Pros cost me about $100. They are perfect.

IMO, simple is better. I find a narrow blade front sight with a wide notch rear easy to align in daylight.

Add a single tritium tube to each of these for a stacked dot sight picture in dim light and I'm GTG. With no white or colored outline, the tritium is almost invisible in daylight, leaving me with simple black sights.

Colors and multiple dots are more visually confusing than simple sight pictures.

Although expensive, these Heine Straight Eight Shield sights are perfect. I have two sets. Good features. Well thought out.

I dislike Big Dots because of their lack of precision, obscuring the target in all but the closest of encounters, when you don't really need sights anyway if you are competent with point shooting. On a rifle pointing at a Cape Buffalo at 30 yards or closer—their original intention—OK. Not for self defense pistols.
