I recently purchased a Model 1076 pistol in good condition with just some holster wear and minor scratches. It also came with a letter from Smith & Wesson's Roy Jinks confirming that it was shipped to the FBI in the fall of 1990 and returned to Smith & Wesson in June of 1992.
Since it has to stay at my FFL while I wait for a New Jersey Handgun Permit, I thought I would have him send it to Smith & Wesson for service and stainless bead blast refinishing of the frame and slide.
Considering the dwindling surplus of parts, the age of the pistol and the fact that I will not have the opportunity to fire it before it goes in, is there anything habitually problematic with these guns or anything other than springs that just makes good sense to replace now?
Thank you,
JSS
