I Recently picked up this Heavy Duty Box and the seller informed me that he had bought the box from the estate of the former Agent Fred Harvey. Is there Any place I might be able to research this former Agent? or does anyone have any info on him?

Thanks

Dan M.

Dan,
Nice box! If you tire of it, let me know as I have something that needs a home!

You need to find someone with connections to the FBI to give you a lead on him.
Thanks,
Bill

There's an organzation of Retired FBI agents. The problem is that they generally won't respond to outside inquiries.

I would suggest that Google is your friend. Or try other search engines. If you know someone that is into genalogy, try plugging his name in to that. Print every hit you find, then if you get better search information, go back and rework all the search things again.

You might try contacting fellow Forum member lw (for Larry Wack). He's a retired FBI agent and has quite an interest in FBI history and firearms.

You might want to request a letter on that serial number, and see if the
gun was shipped to him - although if it went to the FBI, he might not be
named in the records. On the other hand, it might be interesting.

I might know of a bloke who could do a little digging. I'll give him a yell and get back to you.

By the way, that box could be a serious piece of S&W history.

Best,

Michael

Thanks Everyone,

any help is appreciated

Well after Googling the Name along with FBI, I only found some reference to SA Fred Harvey that was involved in Interviews in North Dakota of Lee Harvey Oswald Sightings, This could get interesting

Thanks

I recall thinking, when I joined this forum about three years ago, that it sure was odd that some of the members were into collecting the ratty old original boxes the guns came in.

Now I find myself saying, "Dang! That sure is a nice lookin' box! I sure wish I could get some for my old guns!"

You guys are a bad influence...

I don't recall ever seeing an owner's name along with the number on the label on the box before. Perhaps that means that it was specifically ordered for that Agent by the Bureau.

That does not look like factory printing/writing on the bottom of the box. After the
fact, someone put that there. My guess is this box was for another gun - but the original
serial number is long gone.

Dan M,

Sorry I do not have answer regarding the FBI related question, but regardless, congratulations on getting a very nice & hard to find box. I hope you have a gun to go in it, and if not you'll most likely to be able to find one without much trouble.

Always remember that there are far fewer boxes still around than there are guns, so don't let anyone tell you the box has little value and you should give it away.

I have seen them sell for several hundred dollars on the auction sites.

Congratulations from me a little to the north of you in Tucson.

Yeah, what Tom said. Heck, I'd give you $20 for it, just to keep it out of Texas!

You'd have to pay the shipping, of course...

Here is a little more info I found out

SA Fred Harvey was one of the first Bismarck ND Police Officers after it was formed in the 1930's. Before then it was the Bismarck Marshal's Office. Harvey went on to the FBI in the 1940's.

Dan M,

Glad you got my email with the info. I never heard back from you after I shipped the box. Drop me a line at my email address in my profile. SA Harvey's son is my former Sheriff. I can get you more info on him. My Father got the box from him.
