Just got a verfied FBI model 1076 and I would like to use a powder that woud approximate the FBI Lite load of 950 FPS with cast bullets of 175-200 grains. As of now I use Unique but I am wondering if ther is a better powder because Unique is pretty dirty. All opinions are welcome.

Unique is pretty dirty ? Nothing wrong with Unique, Herco, or Blue Dot for that matter. I'm always surprised when there a a complaint about "dirty" powder while shooting lead bullets. IMHO lead bullets cause >95% of the "dirty" and powder doesn't have much to do with it. Dirty is a way of life shooting lead and there is not much you can do about it. My handguns clean up fine after shooting lead and lead is all I shoot. Apparently some people don't don't feel they have to clean their weapons after shooting.

Well now the new Unique is much "Cleaner Burning" says so right on the can so Alliant must agree with most of us that had used it Before the new Claim. Heck I just finished tonight my last paper can of Hercules Unique, Can't wait to use only the new stuff

I suspect it has to do with a few things, for one pressure, slower velocity loads seem to be a bit dirtier, Not so much is lead dirty but Lube is melting and smoking as it travels on out as desired also. I don't have issue at all with maintaining my weapons after using but I don't really care to stop by the grease N grub on the way home and have black crap all over my hands as I eat, yeah I know wash your hands lead poison , thanks I'll try that.

Opinions we all got'em

I load a 175LSWC in .40 for my SVI, I load it long 1.175" using 4.6grs Universal Clays. It makes major from my 6" gun at 950fps. The load is very clean for a lead bullet. You would probably need closer to 5grs in a 10mm case loaded out to 1.225".
