Anyone else notice that Federal now makes range ammo with Blazer-style aluminum cases? Saw some at WM today: $9 for 9mm 115gr/box of 50, and either $15 or $16 for .45ACP ball, also for 50 rounds. Packaged in that purple-ish box seen at WM.Did not see other calibers.

Packaged in the maroon colored Federal Champion brand boxes, the alum cased ammo is an exclusive product for Walmart. The new ammo is made by CCI, just like the standard Blazer brand alum cased ammo and the Nyclad TNJ alum cased loads made exclusively for Cabelas.

Put a couple hundred rounds through my SR9c without issue.

Price point is about the same as factory reloaded brass.

I've shot about 200 rounds of the 9mm and 45 auto through my guns. As accurate as any brass cased ammo and I've had no issues at all with feed/function/ejection. I try to buy it as WM gets it in stock.

If you guys continue to use the Aluminum cased ammo you will anger the Range Brass Hogs........... LOL!! :D

Seriously,
if you DON'T re-load I suppose it will save you a few bucks, but I don't know too many people left these days that are serious shooters and aren't doing their own re-loading.

I bought a few boxes of the 115 gr 9mm. It looks exactly like CCI
Blazer and suspected that's what it is. I want to chronograph it to
see if it's loaded to the same velocity as Blazers but it's too cold
here right now for chronographing.

I've shot a few boxes of the aluminum .45 through my Ruger SR1911, and it worked fine. For the $14.99 that I paid, I'll buy some more whenever it's available.

I can't find any 9mm, but for $9.99 a box, I'd buy that too if I saw it. I've shot Blazer aluminum through my M&P Pro 9mm, and the Federal seems to be the same stuff.

Freedom Munitions is darn close to those prices though, being a penny cheaper on 9mm and a penny more expensive on .45ACP (and it's brass) so I stock up with them when there is free shipping, and only buy at Walmart when I'm about to run out.

It shoots fine in my shield, and its cheaper and cleaner than the steel case ammo walmart carries.

I have fired many thousand rounds of the 9mm in my Sigs, Smith and Glock without any problems. I once shot in a competition with it and the range director referred to me as "The guy with the hot ammo."

Really? I didn't think of it as particularly hot in either my Beretta or 1911, felt relatively mild compared to some minor PF loads I have made with Longshot and 124gr bullets.

I wish I could find this stuff still though. My local WalMarts don't seem to carry it anymore, the tag on the shelf is even gone. I thought it was great for the days where I don't want or have time to load or don't want to pick up brass.

Thanks, people. I didn't know it had been out there for several months. I was so surprised to see 9mm ball for $10/box, I had to give the Forum a shout. Please don't hesitate to do likewise; we only have each other.

CCI introduced the Blazer line with aluminum cases and Berdan primers about 30 years ago at prices somewhat lower than brass-cased ammo. Somewhere along the line they introduced "Blazer Brass", range grade ammo with standard brass cases. I'm not surprised that they are still in the business with aluminum cased ammo, or that they have some dedicated product lines for the bigger retailers in today's ammo-hungry market.

I've never had a problem with the stuff. About 20 years ago, when the Soviet satellite nations were selling off anything and everything, some very good Makarov-type pistols were available for under $100 and I played around with a few. Found CCI Blazer in 9mm MAK was far superior to any of the commie-bloc ammo available for the Makarovs. CCI even had a HP load at one time in 9mm MAK, also 9mm Parabellum, .38 Spl, and .357 magnum.

I've shot a couple hundred rds of 9mm with no problems what so ever except that our WM has trouble getting it.

I don't reload, so I shoot both Blazer and Federal aluminum cased ammo. Don't have any issues with it. This is the first I've heard about CCI making these rounds for Federal. I pick up the aluminum Federal .40 S&W at Wally World for $15/box. Same price as Blazer from my LGS.

Federal alum. case

I have shot some 9 mm as 9mm is my c/c.

I got a problem now. I traded a LC9 for a LC9s and w/ colder weather, bought a G-19 for winter time. My problem is that both are so much fun to shoot, I am going to restart reloading 9mm. Glad I am retired as I reload .45 & 10 mm and will restart 9 mm

Saw some of those short & weak .40s for 14.97 same price as .45s At 9.97 for 50 on the 9s, darn good price.

I've only seen 9s at my local China-mart and recently saw .45 at another China-Mart. Saw price on .40 on a spot on the shelf at my local China-Mart

Did a search and found this thread, good, it seems there are no problems with the Federal ammo so I picked up 3 boxes at 9.97. Guess i'll have to stop after work and see if there is more as I left 7 on the shelf.

eh... I'd hold off on picking up more until I shot the 1st box or two and see how YOUR pistol likes it.
You probably won't have any problems, but JUST in case. ;) :)
