Federal Form 4473

There's a couple stores I've had to use the computer for the 4473.
I love how they force you to fill it out on a computer, then PRINT IT OUT so you can sign the paper copy.

Why can't I just fill out the paper copy? Am I missing something here, or what?

Welcome to the Government. We went "paperless" and ended up have twice as much paper. Original paper was scanned, and then filed as a backup, when we needed to read the scanned image it was so bade we ended up printing it (so wasted paper and ink) then of course we could not have the paper so had to shred it and hire a company to come and do that.

You have to understand how these things work,:D:eek:

Don't understand how I can go to my local LGS and it takes less than 15 mins (in & out), but at a retailer it takes 3 times as long?

Your question may be rhetorical, but I'd think it was due to a LGS being familiar with the process and doing it all day, every day; where the Wally World (or similar) employee is doing that same process rarely and probably looking over a checklist to be certain they've done the procedure the right way.

An ASE certified mechanic can certainly do a brake job on my car faster than I can; I'd have to look at every description and picture in the repair manual to be sure I don't skip a step.

I did it back in March at Walmart. The process went smoothly but computer info bothers me some.
4473`s are or have always been paper. To be retained at the FFL for 20 years and only allowed by Federal law to be inspected unless a criminal investigation is occuring.
Having it in cyberspace, indefinitly,is my concern.
My reason for concern should be obvious.
Incidently, BRC was conducted in cyberspace also.
Jim

Don't worry-one pulse bomb and it will be all over and we'll be back to grubbing for worms along the highway.
I still can't wrap my mind around this "paperless" stuff. Federal Court has been totally paperless for years as has bankruptcy Court. What that does is shift to the lawyer the burden of custodian of originals. It also creates more paper. One good thing however is file storage. I scan everything now and can trow away 95% of the hard stuff.
