Partly because it shoots well in my guns, and partly because it is often the best .38 ammo that I can find locally, I have shot some.

I asked a man at Federal to chronograph velocties fom a snub and a three-inch .38.

I am almost sure that the snub S&W gave 865 FPS and the three-inch barrel delivered 936 FPS. Both guns were S&W's.

I haven't shot anything alive with it, but it has a pretty good reputation.

That said, if I could find Speer's Gold Dot ammo easier, I'd probably use that. Federal dropped their No. 38G load, a 158 grain lead HP, or I'd use that for defense.

I've never seen Personal Defense labeling, but newer batches may have that label. I HAVE seen Personal Defense on boxes of .357 130 grain ammo.

I have some of that for my .357's, but have yet to fire it. I prefer heavier bullets.

The 129 HS+P has been super accurate in my 3" Model 65. As far as SD, there are better rounds but I wouldn't worry if I had to use this one.
