Federal Introduces New .30 Super Carry Ammunition

They need to change the name of this site to the Whining Old Fudd Forum. I never understood people who complain about more options. If you don't want something, don't buy it. Nothing is a bad idea just because you personally don't want it. For some people going from a 7+1 to a 9+1 or a 10+1 to a 12+1 with no increase in size might be appealing. If we can have 75 new 6.5 rifle calibers we can handle a new handgun cartridge...

Before I buy a new pistol chambered in 30 Super Carry ... I want to see affordable ammunition stacked on my 3 local dealers shelves .
What's the use of buying a new gun in a new chambering if you cant find or afford the ammo .
I got plenty of paper weights ...
Okay Federal ... Lets see some reasonably priced ammo filling the shelves ... I don't like paying all those shipping , handling and hazemat fees ,
Lets See The Goods !

There is a difference between those who "complain about more options" (did anyone do that?) and those who make a comment about the clear redundancy of a new cartridge. Perhaps that's the reason you don't understand.

What clear redundancy? What other cartridge will offer the same ballistics and still fit 12 rounds into a 12 round .30 SC magazine? .30 caliber rounds like the Luger, Tovarev, or Mauser variety are all bottlenecked and won't give the increased capacity this round was designed to provide.

Capacity doesn't really matter to me, but it does to some.

Capacity also seems an insignificant factor to me as well, so insignificant I didn't consider it. But as you mentioned, it probably matters to some.

Here is my cobbled together comparison between 30 Super Carry and .327 Fed magnum. I like the .327, not sure yet on the 30 Super carry.

It will sell, at least for awhile. Then it won't and we'll see the next great idea come along...or another old idea revisited. I did enjoy the comments regarding the .284 Winchester. It suffered because a lack of proper platform. Originally built in leverguns and semi-autos, the die was cast before it ever had a chance. Much like this...it is just hard for me to get excited about another plastic gun regardless of chambering. But I'm old, what do I know?

It looks like the 30 SC case is .055 inches wider than the 327 Federal. I wonder if that will be enough to prevent it from being used in revolvers with moon clips.

The pressure spec for 327 Federal is close enough to the 50,000 PSI limit of 30 SC it would probably be fine. But the 30 SC is short enough that it could also fit into 32 H&R or worse yet 32 S&W long if it wasn't for the case being wider. That could be a disaster, 32 S&W Long has a pressure spec of 12,000 PSI.

I'm not excited about it . I have zero use for it . That about sums it up for me .

At this time when ammo is hard to find and very expensive why in the world are they coming up with a new caliber and making ammo that nobody really wanted anyway?

You're whining and complaining about a cartridge you've yet to see or shoot. So yes you are complaining. Seems painfully obvious. It also appears you failed to notice you proved my entire point by your ridiculous post...

I certainly appreciate the diagram showing difference between the 327 and the super atomic carry bullet, it breaks my heart it won't fit in my 632's

The 30 Super Carry will run right with the 9mm, but offers some advantages. It generates between 10 and 20 percent less recoil, for one thing. And maybe more importantly, given magazines of the same size, it offers a higher capacity than the .380 Auto or 9mm Luger.
