Federal Introduces New .30 Super Carry Ammunition

"Introducing 30 Super Carry— the most revolutionary self-defense advancement in nearly 100 years."

Oh, puh-lease....... Hyperbole, much?

Blech.

How is it better than the 30 Mauser? Dang, that is one hot round. Better than any .32 round that I have ever fired.

And the Luddites will refuse to accept possible improvements.

Ha ha! Pretty good one. I’m in the Luddite class, I’m sure. But a curious Luddite. (A distinct subspecies.) I’d probably try one some day if the cost of ammo is not crazy, but unless they can throw it out there for 9mm prices, it ain’t gonna fly. There’s only so many people who will pay $1/round, and I think those guys (as in government agencies) already have their favorites, but maybe I’m reading this thing all wrong? We shall see!

Smith's new CSX would be a good match for this round. It comes with two mags, one 10 and the other 12. Going to 30 cal would increase that to 12 and 14.

smaller guns make it harder to shoot so you need more rounds for the spray and pray factor. More rounds sells guns, one never knows when the zombies will come.
I will pass.

My take on it is that very few will trade down from 9, 40 or 45, but trading up from 380 is possible. While the marketing may seem to say that 30 SC is a do-it-all, I see it as trying to replace 380 in the super concealable, super slim market category.

A .355"-.357" are my lower limits for a handgun round. Any smaller and I won't likely be to load them. Laugh at the reality. What I've type is in jest, but based on much truth.

Who knows? I may shoot one and fall in love, but it ain't likely.

A good ploy would be to flood the market with lower cost ammo. That alone would create a demand for firearms chambered for it.

I doubt we (Baby Boomer & Older) are the target market for this Super round.

We are now the target market for hearing aids, pain and prostate relief are products.

If you are hoping to see 30 Super guns the size of small 380s you are going to be disappointed. Cartridges that are nearly as powerful as 9mm will need guns nearly as large and heavy. The grips might be a bit thinner but that is about it.

This is an evolutionary improvement over 9mm that will increase capacity, nothing revolutionary. A cartridge that would have bridged the gap between 380 and 9mm would have been better IMO but this one is a replacement for standard pressure 9mm, not 380.

I am always looking for a better carry gun and if I can get one the same size with a couple of extra rounds in it that sounds better to me. Not "WOW! I must have one now!" better. But once more guns are available I am definitely going to take a look at them.

I'll stick with my 9mm, .38 Super, and .45 ACP. Packing more rounds into a gun that are supposedly ballistically-similar to 9mm is an exercise for chronically bad shooters that need more ammo without a reload.
