Went out today to my favorite gun pusher's store and noticed he had some Federal .38spl ammo in stock. Turned out to be the new-manufactured 125gr. .38spl Nyclad load

My J frames are happy now!.

Oh yeah, it was expensive but I bought a couple of boxes anyway! His prices are usually very good so, I am thinking it was a decent price.

They were $19.95 a box of 20!!

69HEMI,did you see the price?

Sir, as another data point, I bought a box of 20 in Denver the other day for $21.95.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I found 2 boxes of 50 each, one std .38 spl and one +P. Paid 24.00 a box. Love small, out of the way gun shops!

I saw a bunch of the standard Nyclad .38 today in the black & white 50 rd boxes. $27.95 a box.

OK, educate me about the Nyclad. What is so great about it? Just getting back into my handguns after many years shooting semi autos.

I still have 3 - 50 round boxes (125 Gr JHP) never opened of the Blue boxed stuff from many, many, many years ago. My brother probably still has more boxes of it than I do.

Groo here
Nyclad was first maid for range ammo to reduce lead in the air.
later swc and hollowpoints were made.
Most writers say that they are the best or near
best load for snubs as thr nylone covering
keeps leading down but allows the soft lead
to expand at low speeds

Nyclads were made with soft lead covered with nylon. The lead was soft enough to expand reliable from short barrel revolvers while the nylon prevented leading in the barrel.

That said, I have a few boxes of the old Nyclad ammo and I have to tell you, it's the most accurate .38 Special factory ammo I've ever shot. The stuff is just amazing IMO.

Thanks for the info guys. I remember buying the stuff when my brother had his FFL and the distributor was selling the ctuff out real cheap. I guess I need to try a few rounds from my 642.

Wife and I always loved Nyclad ammo. We enjoyed shooting both the 158 & 125's in the old 38+P offering. Both were Very accurate out of all our S&W.

Only problem is we use to buy Nyclad loads for 15 to 17 dollars for 50 rounds. Dang times have changed.

I can only assume Federal had CCW duty in mind when they re-released their Nyclad load. The price is really not out of line with other high performance carry loads. Unfortunately they are all expensive. But I don't think they are asking you to pay that price for paper punchers. I was happy when I found a shop that still had some 50 round boxes of the 357 158gr SWCHP Nyclads for $30 a box. The same store had some Nyclad 38's, but they were 158gr round nose bullets, for $19 a box of 50. I bought all they had. I love the stuff and would not mind seeing the entire line of Nyclad brought back. Just my opinion.
