I have the opportunity to trade for a 6906 and am curious of its value. It appears to be a second generation with the square trigger guard and Novak night sights. Condition is excellent with 2 mags and factory box.

Opinions of the 6906 itself, advantages of that version of the gun, what to look for to ensure it's a good trade (ie cracked rails), and pics of your guns are all welcome!

Pictures would help. The early 6906's had the long, hooked trigger guard and small rear sight that looked similar to those on the full size second gen pistols. If it has a hooked trigger guard and Novak rear sights, it could be one that falls a little later in production. I can tell you that it is hard to find the correct holsters for these long, hooked trigger guards.

As to value, condition and accessories are key. Not too long ago, I picked up a used, early production 6906 with 2 mags and box for $300 and that was at my local pawn/sporting goods/gun shop.

Personally, I think the late production pistols are the best. Round trigger guards that fit more of the holsters that you might find, MIM fire control parts that typically yield a much smoother trigger pull.

$300ish...........................

Last one I bought was $325 as new in box with round trigger guard, Novak sights.

Got a 6904 for $260 with 2 mags. also as new in box.....
Here are a few pics. The serial number has a TEE prefix. BAM-BAM, how long ago were those purchases?
I'm weird I guess since I like the hooked trigger guards, and a friend who has worked on S&Ws for decades will smooth out any guns I buy.

14-15 months ago .... actually got them both at the same local shop about a month apart........ both were trade ins. The shop knew they would be slow sellers with the "plastic fantastic crowd"....knew I like old metal guns and willing to accept a small profit for a fast turn over. Figure they made $135 in profit on their money within one or two days ..... where as they could have made more but have their money tied up for weeks or months.

One of those "I've got something you might like!" ..... brought out from the back.... deals.

Pays to make "friends", aka be a good customer, with your local gun shops

They sold me a M&P-9 1.0 at cost .... because the 2.0s were out and they wanted to get more 2.0s to sell vs letting the 1.0 just tie up $$$$s in the case.

By the way those are aftermarket night sights.

TEE serial numbers date to 1989, which is right for the First Trigger Guard (square).

The 6906 is light enough to carry because of the alloy frame. Light for a double stack that is. Still, a nice personal defense weapon if you have the need for more than the 8+1 a 3913 gives you.

Kind of a built in NY reload........ if you use a 59xx mag with +2 adaptor.

:D

I've been carrying mine since 1994. Has maybe 10K rds (no +P) throgh it in that time. If'n I had a place to shoot it I'd bet I can pull it and fire the 12 Fed 124 HST until the slide locks. I'm sold. Joe

Yup, I have a few local shops like that and used to work for one!
Thanks for the aftermarket sight info. Fine by me because they're a huge improvement over the original, vertical rounded sights.

My 6906 is getting as much carry time as my 3913....with the +2 adapter I feel 15 rounds of hydra Shocks is plenty enough for whatever I may be confronted with.....and for me it carries just as well....this summer I'll switch back to the 3913....and Stoner Holsters in Middletown has 6906 models for squared trigger guards....

Thanks for the Stoner info. I didn't know that... He's about 15" from the house. We pass him whenever we go to Twin Creek and Germantown to hike.

The rear sight has been replaced, might be night sights. I'd say $325-$350.

I'm deeply in love with my 6906. It looks sexy as all get out with that hooked trigger guard, and carries very well. I even had an old holster that fit it!
