Having just bought the 457 I would like some opinions on what to use for carry ammo. I'm considering the Ranger T 230 gr primarily as no one makes a non-Plus P version of the 200 gr anymore. I don't think +P would be good for an aluminum frame so that's out. Speer's 200 gr +P Gold Dots are good but not for this model.

I've read where guys say to stay away from anything less than 230 gr for the 45 but, I don't buy that. Perhaps a 185 gr would be better for the short 457 barrel.

I have carried mine with 230 gr SXT's. My practice with it has been my own 200 grain cast swc's over 5.0 of 231.

My 457 gobbles up just about anything I can load in it. My favorite load is the Remington Golden Saber 185 grn. JHP (non +P) which feeds flawlessly.
