Feeling lower than worm spit after being DQ'd Saturday :(, I needed a plan to rejoin the world.

Leaving the Single Stack Sig at home I headed to the range this morning with a 686, 617, MP 15, and MP 15-22. After several hundred rounds down range things were feeling a little better. After a break, I pulled out the MP 15. It only took two mag dumps and I was feeling like myself again.

Back to serious work end of the week. :) I will not touch the trigger when reloading, Chapter 10. - 10.5.9

Thanks Jim.
I really have to watch the muzzle with the 3 foot rule when reloading as I have no rotator cuff in my right shoulder so the gun tends to drop low. When shooting my left hand supports the gun, the right only works the trigger.

DQ = disqualification. Means you were sent home from the match for some sort of a safety infraction. One local match director makes you stay and help tape and keep score.

Don't let the DQ get you down. Trust me, the memory will stick with you for a long time. DQ's are very effective in making you remember what you did wrong, and helping you from making the same mistake again. It happens to the best of us. I had a gun fall from a holster a few months back, and was DQ'd. I never had a problem with that holster, but then I started thinking about it, I realized that I had never really run with a gun in that holster. All of my shooting with that gun and holster combo had been either steel challange or Icore. No real movement in steel challange and usually start in a box and draw for Icore. I felt marginally better when a local Grand Master shooter came up and told me that he had the same thing happen at a major match, which means he got sent home from a match that he probably paid about $100 in entry fees, plus his air fare and hotel.

Just remember what got you DQ'd and be especially careful to avoid that same mistake in the future.

I got DQ'ed from a match years ago because my sear was worn and the gun went full auto during the match, oops!
Last week I felt like I was close to DQ'ing. I didn't seat my mag good enough, so after one shot it fell out. I didn't have enough mags to complete the stage without that mag. For balance, I put my hand on the plastic barrel we were shooting under, as I bent down to safely pick up my mag. As you have guessed by now, the barrel slid and down I went. Luckily the gun didn't hit the ground. I was fully in control of it, my finger was out of the trigger guard, and only my gun hand was on the ground, not the gun. Overall that was a bad match for me. The next week, Tuesday night, I did awesome!

I have seen some of the greatest competitors DQ'd. Anyone can make a move that when scrutinized by a couple of National RO's might be called a DQ. It happens, make use of the lesson and go on with it.
