Feeling kind of snubby today

There are some pretty nice S&W snub revolvers pictured in this thread . I don't know why but I've always wanted one ...not to carry but just to own and shoot on occasion .
I was given a Taurus 85 a few years ago . It's an older model with the gloss blue finish and for it's price range it's fit and finish is really pretty good....but it's not a Smith & Wesson and after checking the various pictures posted here it's rekindled my desire for a S&W snub .
A question to those of you in the know . It's a Model 36 Chiefs Special I'd likely be looking for . From what I've seen it would appear that for an earlier flatlatch model you're looking in the $1000 and up range for one in very nice condition with box and paperwork . The flatlatch models were produced from the 1950's into the early 1960's ?
The later Chief models from about the late 1960's into the mid 1970's bring in the $600-$800 range also in very nice condition with original box and paperwork ?
I wouldn't be looking for a collector grade since I would use it from time to time but it would have to be in very good to excellent condition and preferably with the original box and paperwork . Also I'm not ready to pay upwards of a $1000 or more for one '
I'm thinking/hoping more in the $700 price range...or less ?
Any and all input would be appreciated.
You might think about posting in the Wanted to Buy section of the forum. Folks here have always been fair in their pricing. If they aren't in the right ballpark it doesn't sell!

I too am a big fan of the service stocks with a Tyler/BK/Robertson T-grip. Nice round up of snubbies.

Many years ago, after I bought my first S&W 10, a 4" HB, I found a second, a 2", which looked like the one pictured. I sold it to a good friend who felt he needed some better home protection, and went without a 10 snubby for many years. Then I found this one, or it found me. Lettered to 8/17/1950, so it turns 75 not too many days before I do.

Actually correcting myself. When this girl was assembled, these are 2" M&P K-frames...

I just picked up a blued S&W model 36 no dash flat latch in excellent original condition earlier this week. The serial number
is 261942 which would put it in the early 1960's. I was wondering if someone has a data base that might nail down the shipping
date a little better. Thank you in advance.

The Chiefs Specials in the database with serial numbers closest to yours shipped in 1962.

Nice snub! By chance I bought this 2" M&P snub a few years ago a couple weeks before my birthday which is early September. It shipped early Sept1950 as did I. The gun & I are about to both have our 75th birthday.20231021_144245.jpg

Stonebuster, yours and mine were likely on the assembly line very close together. Serial on mine is C124xxx.
