Just picked up a barely used 5" performance center 1911. Loving the gun but my old eyes are not happy with the all black sights. I painted the front sight orange and that helps, but really want to swap front sight to fiber optic. Since this is a range gun I would like to keep the adjustable rear.

Does anyone know a mfg/model # of FO front sight that will work with the stock rear? I looked at Dawson Precision and they list sight for Gen 1 Performance Center but for some reason I think that is an older model... but dunno for sure.

I may have to bite the bullet and find a gunsmith to do it for me but I would still like to know what my options are before contacting them.

thanks !

I'll offer two suggestions - buy a sight from S&W or have glasses made that eliminate the problem instead of altering your gun.

As the photo below shows, S&W did make 1911s with a fiber-optic front sight. This is a PC gun from 1989 in .38 Super.

I assume they might have replacement parts for that gun. I found that "glow worm" sight didn't offer a sharp, exact sight picture like a black Patridge front sight and have since replaced it with a Patridge like the one that came on your gun, which is the vastly preferred front sight for target work.

For glasses that will permit your aging eyes (I'm 70) to see both your gun's sights AND the target clearly, contact Morgan Sports Optics at (716) 379-8773. They made them for me via email with just my glasses Rx, whether I am right- or left-handed and the distance at which I customarily shoot targets. Lots of good stuff on their website - Shooting Glasses for Sportsman | Morgan Optical.
