Greetings,

Picked it up in trade last week, not in bad shape either. Just the gun and one magazine.
The only thing I dislike are the Hogue rubber grips way too thick for me. Time to start hunting for the OEM grips and magazines without breaking the bank.

Glad to be here. :)

Welcome aboard.
That's a nice 3rd Gen you have there. Do you mind sharing where you bought it (pawn shop, gun store, internet, etc.) and how much you paid for it? I would just like to know the value of the Gen 3's today.
I went with the straight grip on my 5906. It feels more comfortable in my hands. ;)
I purchased it in December 2012 for $275 plus shipping. It came with 2 mags.

I traded a Canik TP9SF Elite-S straight up for the 5903.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

As for magazines, I strongly urge you to get MecGar mags, either the 15 or 17 rd versions. If you must have them, they also have the crippled 10 rounders. They are the OEM supplier for many of the top manufacturers worldwide. The only mags I really trust in a pistol other than the original.

They are the OEM for Ruger and KelTec among others. In the past, they also supplied S&W.

Great pistol! L/E marked? GA State Patrol and several other LE organizations in GA went from revolvers to the 5903 in 1990 or so. Great shooting gun. OEM mags are expensive but worth it. The alloy frame makes it a pleasure to carry.

I carried an early production 5903 as an issued weapon for many years. I also preferred the straight grip that came on the 4006 to the curved grip of the stock 59XX.

It's important to make sure the frame rails are properly lubricated on the aluminum-framed guns, and to keep excessive amounts of any liquids (solvents, oils, CLP's) away from the extractor recess, and the firing pin channel. Excessive liquids can migrate into those contained spaces and accumulate, trapping fouling and crud, and can eventually create a sludge that may create functioning problems. Not as easily fouled as striker-fired guns (M&P, Glock, P99, etc), with their generously open channels on the bottom of the slides, but still a consideration and a reason not to get over exuberant when applying cleaning/lubrication products in those areas.

Congrats.

Robertson's Trading Post in Henderson, Tennessee has 2-3 used curved grips at $19 each. I just bought 2 yesterday (731-989-7641). They also have Smith 15 round mags at $26 each (used) and Mekgar 15 mags at same price (new). Buy 3 items and get free shipping too.

I purchased my 5903 from a coworker (private transfer) last week for $300. It came with three 14 round mags. I was told by the dealer that the going rate is around $500 right now

I'm wanting to swap the stock front sight with a night sight while keeping the stock rear. Anyone know the height I will need for the front sight? Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum! To echo what a few have already said, you can usually get the magazines from Midway or MecGar. You do have to be fast as they sell quickly. Congratulations on your new trade ( you did extremely well :) ). You will get a lot of looks at the range.
