It sure does seem like a bad time to get an itch to buy a new Smith and Wesson. Every gun store seems to have rows and rows of empty shelves with the occasional over priced or rough conditioned Smith. I have always wanted a nickel S&W to add to my collection of Blued and Stainless guns. I am just very picky when it comes to Nickel. I cant deal with haziness or scratches. Blued guns just age so much more gracefully that nickel in my opinion.

Anyway, i was able to find a really nice 29-2 4" with a very nice nickel finish. There is just something about a 4 inch N frames that I love. Unfortunately there is no box, but for just over a thousand bucks, I think i did relatively well. The stocks do not appear to be original to the gun since the gun is from 1980 and the stocks have black washers. My understanding is that those were phased out between 72 -74. Just thought i would share!

Also, if anyone has a 4 inch N frame presentation box for sale, let me know!

I love Smith's nickel finished guns. Yours is a stunner. Congratulations!

You'll find it's more durable than you imagine.

Definitely beautiful! I have one nickle a 36-1. It's nice but nothing like a n frame. Congrats

Very nice and I would leave those stocks just like they are, that's some outstanding grain in the wood.

Beautiful gun.. You did good.

I'm a blued steel fan but somehow those nickel guns sneak into your gun safe when you are not looking. I think I have seven.

THAT is a beautiful gun.

Don't get spun up on the price you paid. Quality is paramount.

Over time, prices change. I've always been willing to pay a high price for a select piece... and so many others pass it by.

MANY years ago, I bought an unfired nickel 4" just like this, with presentation case, tools, papers etc., AND the numbered external matching shipping box. It cost me $850 out the door at a gun show. "Oh, it's so expensive!" That's what my friends said. Yeah, right.

I applaud your purchase.

Best wishes,

Roger aka Mr. Wonderful

You can take a stainless steel Smith of your choice and polish it to mirror finish and while it will nice it just lacks the warmth and depth you get from a nickle plated Smith. That is one beautiful M29-2 and you are correct, there is just something about a 4" barrel that makes you smile.

I couldn't agree more. Ill be enjoying it long after I forgot what i paid for it. I very rarely stumble upon 4" N frames that are in this nice of shape so i have to take advantage of it when the opportunity arrises.

There is something impressive about nickel. A 4-inch nickel N frame is about as good as it gets. Beautiful gun.

I have only owned 1 nickel gun. it was a 4" 29-2 from 1971. It's beauty was overshadowed by it's poor function! Shame! Went to a smith twice, and the issue was not fixed. It left me. Bob
