It's my Mona Lisa, my Eiffel Tower, my Rachmaninoff's Third; it's what I will be cuddling up with at night, HA!

Let me know what you guys think, pretty good before and after if I do say so myself...

the stock you have on there .. its the magpul prs if im not mistaking. did you need any spacers for that one

and the rail what the make on model on it and did you need and any thing else to install or even exchange

Yes it is the Magpul PRS, had to replace the butt stock tube with a rifle length model and install a rifle length spring. That's all you need for the aft end, the quad rail is from Damage industries, it's the mid-length quad that had the phrase "Don't Tread On ME" inscribed on it, you can't miss it (link below). Had to loosen the gas block and move it about a 1/8" of an inch up to make the rail fit.

The rifle shoots great, attached is the first 20 rounds I put through it at 50 yards so I could put the scope on paper, probably head out this weekend to sight it in at 100. Pretty nice group, just used cheap Winchester 150 grain power point. From what I hear these rifles really like the 168 grain Federal Match BTHP.

Where did you get the rifle length buffer tube? Is it specifically the rifle length buffer tube (not the extended tube)? Then the Magpul PRS stock, rifle length buffer tube, rifle length buffer spring, and the stock S&W M&P 10 carbine length buffer will the rifle run without damage? Thanks for any advice and help.

My rifle loves 168 grain bullets, along with 175's.

I would not recommend using the stock carbine buffer in a rifle length buffer tube. This could cause the bolt carrier to strike the receiver at the rear of the stroke.

S&W has a spacer that can be used with their stock buffer and spring in a rifle length buffer tube. The spacer keeps geometry correct for proper operation.

Regards.

Buffers, Buffer Tubes, Buffer Springs, and Buffer

I thought that would be the case. I have typed multiple messages to S&W, and every time I get a different answer.

I have a 308 rifle buffer tube and rifle buffer spring and a rifle length buffer. But my understanding is you have to use S&W's buffer and spacer as they are proprietary.

So I just need S&W's spacer, my rifle length buffer tube, and rifle length spring (not S&W's), then the Magpul PRS stock should work.

Thanks again for your help.

Someone sells a polymer spacer that is 2 1/8" long although my measurements say it is more like 2 5/8" for AR-15 (military carbine tube). Given that the civilian tube is longer, I suspect it is not critical. I have heard of people using a stack of quarters :)

I would measure what tube length is stock for the M&P10 (seems to be a little longer than AR-15) and then make a spacer and use the factory spring and carbine buffer.

Quick question, how much did the overall length change in the collasped position?

Cheers
Ron

S&W suggests you use the STOCK carbine buffer AND their spacer they sell with a rifle length tube. There have been many threads on this forum discussing just that.

The one they sold me is exactly 2 inches long.

I like those offset iron sights. Tell us about them. You must be LH like me.

The Nikon M308 scope is not going to be dead on with your rifle. Its going to be further off the longer down range you shoot. Thats why i stayed away from that scope, other than that its a nice piece of glass. You have to get a chrono of the particular round youre going to shoot and build a ballistics table based off of that

The M-308 is designed to be dead on with 168 hollow point boat tail match ammunition. Sighted in at 100 yards with that ammunition. Anything else is going to be off but from what I've see with their Spot-On web sight and a couple ballistics tables, not hugely so unless you are shooting at long ranges.

Of course, what other equipment you have and the shooter will affect how accurate the rifle is as usual. One can do all kinds of modifications for accuracy but will still be all over the place if proper shooting protocols like breathing and smooth trigger pull aren't followed.

Looks good, let us know how things go at 100 with the same ammo.

Guys,

I have a clarification question on the PRS. The posts are all over the map on what I need to change. I have the PRS ordered and I also ordered the spacer from S&W which was $8. S&W told me NOT to change the tube or spring just add the spacer and it should work fine. What I'm reading is all over the map on changing the tube and almost everyone seems to say it needs to be changed. Has anyone just added the spacer and if so how did that work out?
