A while back I put a (B.O.L.O) out to my S&W buddies for a 4" barrel 17-6 .

Last week I got a hot tip from friend and fellow Smith enthusiast Allen frame where to find one.

After procrastinating for 5 days I finally got a chance to stop in the local GS.....and SURPRISE it is still there !
Probably no doubt due to the fact it was in the back and camouflaged with a pair of crappy rubber hogues making it look very much like an old Model 586.

Although asking price is $500 after some light negotiating it is mine for $450 or ($472 dollars OTD) .
Lockup is perfect and very little signs of wear except for some GAWD DANG FOON has polished the S&W trademark down to a blur...!!!
Otherwise the gun its near perfect.

Enough talky talky here are the pics.

light trademark will be corrected soon with a factory re stamp.

You did REAL GOOD on that beauty with the beautifuly grained grips! Nice pair and really has me wanting one badly but my wife cut me off of new Smiths.......again:) !

congrats on your find and purchase.
do you mind sharing what the re-stamp will cost?

Thanks, Not sure yet what cost will be yet but pretty sure it can either be roll stamped by the factory or engraved.
Dont expect it should cost more than $50 or so.
Strange how just the logo is buffed out and the rest of the gun amost perfect.
No way it got through S&W QC that way so Im guessing it was done after the fact.

"I picked up a 4" 17-6 recently, great shooting gun. You need to add a 16-4 4" to round out the 4" full lug collection."

Thanks and congrats to you too....How about some pics?
I know where there is an available 4" full underlug Model 16 but prefer .22 for target and .357 for defense.

That looks nice. I would like to find one to go with my 17-6 6 inch.

Me too! Been looking or a 4 inch 617 or 17-6 for sometime now. I love my full lug 17-6, just feels right.

Congrats on the gun, $472 sounds real nice to me!

If the logo has been buffed ...and the rest of the gun look "near perfect"...would make me wonder if it has been reblued?

The factory roll stamp edges give the appearance of over aggressive buffing,

But..wouldnt this sticker be gone after a dip in bluing salt solution?

The problem with a used gun is we may never know what it went through before.

Whatever the end result I am happy to have a nice 4" barrel Model 17-6

That "28" sticker was on the frame of my 17-6 6 inch when I bought NIB if that helps any....
