I don't own a .40 Cal pistol. I have a few .357 & .45s. Never saw a reason to own one. Have shot some, and nothing wrong with either the caliber, or the guns they run in.

Back in March. Homeland Security purchased 450 million rounds of .40-caliber hollow point ammo.

The DHS is also planning to purchase a further 750 million rounds of different types of ammo in a separate solicitation that also expires on August 20.

The DHS recently put out an order for riot gear. The U.S. Army is also busy buying similar equipment.

450 million rounds??? Now I know where to get cheap .40 ammo!

Sounds like I am not the only one buying up ammo???

Many years ago I had a Hi-Power in .40 S&W. Shot well enough and the size was pretty good. But, the .40 wasn't easy to find in the early 1990's. Most LEO's were still issued revolvers and hi-cap 9mm's. I let it go.

Meh... it's just a caliber that never seemed to generate any interest for me. Never fired one so don't really know if the "snappy" recoil is fact or myth.

I do pick up a good quantity of 10mm Kurz brass as "incidental bycatch" so from time to time I've almost boiled on a couple of Ruger 944 but never pulled the trigger. After 3 years I gifted a big batch of the brass to a servicemember & got rid of the rest.

I had a .40 Glock for a few months. I could not justify having to stock up on another caliber. I shot 100 rounds through it then traded it for a Thompson Contender .44 mag Super 14. It ended up costing me much more as I now have Super 14 barrels in .22LR, .223, .45/.410, and 30-30.

Those Super 14s'll do that to you... Aren't they great? I'm down to one SS barrel/frame, dedicated to AZ's handgun Javelina hunt. Equipped with a 2MOA/2X Aimpoint, it's death-ray accurate, and adequately potent. Word seems to have gotten around, as javelina seem to vanish when I tote this afield...

Yep, that's the best reason there is for buying a .40 caliber.

When I was deciding between a CW 40 and a CW9 what swung the decision was the fact I’d never reloaded for 40 S&W. A 1000 or so rounds later I find I like reloading 40 more than I likereloading 9mm. The bullets and cases are easier to handle.

Easier to handle eh? I guess those old cigarrette commercials were right, a "silly millimeter" makes all the difference.

Here's my .40:

.40 is a great caliber.

Bullet Bob, that looks really nice. Great picture tho...

I didn't have much use in a .40 caliber until I found a Ruger carbine with ghost sights at a good price. Of course that led to the Ruger semi auto handgun that shares the same mags and bought one of those too.
I haven't done much but plink with the two of them and likely won't be loading for the caliber either.

I agree. I've got 40's in Glocks and Sigs. All have .357 Sig barrels to go along with them.
I've got .357 Sig M&P's with accompanying .40 barrels and when I'm feeling like tossing 40's out of a wheel gun I just dig out my 310 Night Guard.
At the height of the ammo shortage (last election cycle) I could always find plenty of .40 ammo in the stores.
What's not to like about .40?

I snagged my 40 back when that was the only caliber of bullets to be found on the shelves. I also like I convert my pistol to 357sig or 9mm fairly easily.

Its definitely snappier than a 9mm, but I don't have a problem with it.

Here is a good reason for the purchase of large amounts of ammo, being prepared for the worst. Remember, hollow point can only be used domestically. It's happening right under your nose and you don't even realize it. Watch the video and learn. Believe me there's a lot more to this than you can ever amagine.

I bought about 400 rounds of .40 S&W Blazer Brass when WM put it on sale for $6.99/50, so of course I had to go out and buy a firearm or two (three?) to utilize that cheap ammo. It doesn't seem all that snappy to me, but my pistols are "full size" and I have big paws....

Very snappy, vs. the .45ACP firm push. The 40S&W recoil characteristics remind me a lot of a .357 Magnum type of recoil, just a tad "lighter."
