I never had an S&W N-frame until I started reading this forum, and now I have three. A 6.5-inch 629 DX, a 5-inch 625, and a 5-inch 27. I am happiest of the 27 which just joined the family this week. Living in sunny and humid South Florida, makes finding a blue revolver in decent shape a miracle. I hope you all enjoy.

She sure is a 5-inch. My first blue S&W also. I really had my heart set on a 4-inch, but this one came along at the right price, so I could not resist.

If only my wife could understand the love for an N-frame !!!

The 5" M27 is maybe my favorite handgun.

Here's one that came from your state. Did you know the FHP used to carry revolvers like this?

The 5" 27 is definately up there as an all-time awesome S&W revolver...Here's my favorite, a 27-2 5" with Herrett's Ropers.

OIF2,

If I didn't know better (it's in far better condition than his) I would have thought that your 5" 27 is Skeeter Skelton's! Don't know if you read Shooting Times in the 70's/80's, but as a gun writer he stated many times his belief that the finest revolver ever was a 5" model 27 with Roper stocks. I purchased two 27's new in the mid-seventies having been influenced by Skelton's articles. Both were in mahagony, 3t', Goncalo Alves, one in 5" and the other 8 3/8ths. I do not have the Ropers however. Great gun, great shooter, with the 5" being perhaps the perfect barrel length. Carries well, yet with a sufficent sight radius for serious accuracy. Got mine out tonight after seeing your photo. If you haven't read any Skelton you might want to do so. Great stuff..... many references to your gun.

Hi Jimmy
I like Skeet's stuff and am friends with his son, Bart. I've handled one of Skeeter's 5" guns and he liked the Herrett's version of the Roper, too. Skeeter also liked a 1/10" front sight width and had all his revolvers set up for that, including his 27s.

Ah yes, the 5 inch Mod 27. As the good Dr. SaxonPig said " ... is maybe my favorite handgun." and I have to concur.

The perfect handgun-grip combination!

I saw in a add that a fellow has a 27-2 5 inch NIB and he wants 2000.00 for it. Is that a good deal. I seen pictures for it and he says the 5 inch is real rare. That is why it is priced so high. So what is the price range for these?

Here's my "shooter", a 6" 27-2 with, you guessed it, custom Herrett's stocks.

Here's another, a 27-3 that was collecting dust on a shelf at the LAPD Academy store. I bought it cheap (nobody wanted a revolver in 1988) had the Armory slick it up and add a smooth trigger. I then put a set of Hogue rubber stocks on with the S&W logo...another nice shooter!

Peyton: Don't know what part of the country you're in, but $2K sounds way high to me. I bought this '73 vintage 5" 27-2 for $500 about 2 weeks ago. It had no box, but was unfired. (Until I got my grubby little paws on it.) Came with numbered magnas, but is wearing Bear Hug Ropers for the picture.
