Finally got a Model 41 today

I appreciate it. I've reached a point where I am going to start trying to find the ones I've wanted all these years but couldn't afford. I'm being pretty picky now since prices have gone a little crazy.
When I picked this one up from my FFL (bought it out of the northeast) I also got a Ruger 22/45 Lite Black, so my fun money is depleted for a bit. Maybe while I"m saving back up, the market will correct itself and prices will return to a sane level.

The Model 41 is a dream to shoot. It moves absolutely NONE in your hand. A friend has one he has let me shoot, and I was blown away by it.

Congratulations on the purchase of the Model 41 and it's ironic because I had to do my re-qualification for my conceal carry permit today and the pistol I used to qualify was my Model 41. In Arkansas if you qualify with a semi auto you can carry anything but if you qualify with a revolver you can only carry a revolver.

That is a beautiful gun. I love the longer barrels and will probably save up and get one eventually. Kinda like a tall, good lookin' woman. Just hard to take your eyes off....
I've been a cop all my adult life, so I've never had to do a CCW qual. Just my duty weapon stuff. I can imagine the targets you shot w/ the M41!

The barrels on the Model 41 are easy to switch out and there are several different vintage and new factory and aftermarket barrel options so you don't need to buy another whole gun.
Yes, your gun is an early one. In addition to the low serial number you can tell by the fact that "Model 41" is on the left side. They moved this to the right side after the first few years or production.

Love the Model 41. I've always shot bullseye with tricked out Ruger Marks, but one of these days I'm gonna get a 41. Yours look great.

Just looking at serial numbers, mines 49699, I'm not sure of it vintage but I know it's reasonably early
Yours looks to be in great condition.
The guys at the range, even those that have 41's, can't believe how sweet the trigger is on mine, think about it and you've let the shot off.

Important to remember - S&W was not manufactured in SN order and further mixed in shipping.
Thanks, Tom. I bought the pistol in early 59, which squares with your data. Still have it, and the box; wonderful gun. I just shot a 10 round group, 1.2 inches off a rest at 25 yds. Would have been smaller except 79 year old eyes.

I'm afraid that if I ever bought one of these, I'd stop loving my other .22 pistols.
What is involved in the qualification? Georgia doesn't require any qualifying for a Weapons Carry License, but I would not object to such a thing. I wonder what the general consensus of forum members would be?
You meet with a licensed instructor at a range that can certify you and what they do vary I'm sure by the individual. The one we had had two purposes to his certification routine. The first is to see how you handled the gun you are qualifying with in terms of gun safety. Gun always pointed down range when not aiming and on the firing line. Gun handling during shooting a set like the slide locked open and mag out between the sets you are asked to shoot. The second thing is at 7 yards they had a 6x6 inch piece of paper on a larger target and they required that all you shots were on the paper somewhere. We had to fire a set of one round, two rounds, 3 rounds at slow pace up to you, and the last 5 rounds at rapid fire.
