I have never owned or even fired a 44 magnum! I am 64. Do have 45 ACP's, and 45Colt.
I kept saying I needed a S&W 29, or 629. Was checking out the sites for 1. Came across a 6" 29-3. Pictures not that good. described as very nice. Was only listed a couple days, "Buy it Now". It became mine! Great seller! Picked it up at my FFL today. It is VERY NICE! Before I got it, invested in new dies etc. Gun serial # is AZE53xx. Can anyone get me close on a date? Can't wait to shoot it! Bob

Very nice!! You will love shooting it!! I load up 44 special with trail boss to shoot a lot and always have some full house mags to enjoy the BIG bang occasionally. I can not help on a date, just wanted to give a congragulations on a fine purchase. Have fun!!
 
21 grains of 2400 and Elmer's bullet will shoot nicely out of that!
 
Very nice 29-3! I got a 29-3 but 4" last Jan and love shooting it.

Looks good Dirty Bob. After I get moved I'll dig out the 44 mag stuff I have and we can go shoot that bad boy.
 
Congrats Bob. It's great to see that you've stepped over into the world of 44 magnum. You picked a really nice one to fill your "urge" !! I can see many fun filled days at the range in your future! (and you didn't lay it on rocks to take pictures!)
 
I don't own one either, but I've gotten to shoot one a few times, the last time being last Monday. They are alot of fun and will get everyone's attention on an indoor range with 180 grain mag rounds! Enjoy!
 
Congrats, that’s a fine specimen for your first .44mag. Once you get out and enjoy shooting it you’ll find yourself looking for another one !
 
Get yourself 500 .44 Special brass and keep them loaded. .44 Specials are a lot of fun out of a .44 Mag and they are what teach you how to shoot a .44 Mag. The Mags only teach you how to react/control the recoil.

It's much different from a .38 to a .357 transition. The .44 Mag is a different animal, the blast and recoil are to me twice that of a .357.
I shot M27's & M28's for years before buying a M29-2. All I was doing was impressing myself by the noise and recoil until I started loading .44 Spl's. I started mild and worked up and next thing you know, I found out how accurate the .44 platform is in both Specials and Magnums@

I plan on lighter loads to start with. Bought Starline magnum brass. Will also load some special in magnum brass also. Bob

Not likely, but who knows for sure. I have other nice guns that don't make it to the range often enough. Bob
 
I have 27-2's in all the cataloged barrel lengths except my 4" gun is a 27-3. Not P&R but it shoots as nicely as any of the others. Y will like that -3. Good Score.
 
Stick with .44 mag cases for all your reloads. When you want to down load to .44 Special loads just use Trail Boss or less powder of the correct type,
like 2400 or Unique or Green Dot(not H-110/ww296). Your cylinders will love you for sticking to the same length, and you should never have any trouble with inserting .44 mag rounds when needed.
 
I would like a little feedback on this gun. There is no box. Based on 1988 ship date the stocks are too early for it. Mechanically is very good. Doubt that it was fired much. (no flame cutting visible)Was wondering what kind of condition percent it should be considered. (I have never been good with this) I feel that I got it for a good price for what it is. Bob

You, sir, have just purchased a beautiful gun! Now that I've cleaned up the drool from my keyboard, let me see what we've got. Of course, grading is difficult without actually handling the gun, but from your pictures, the blue seems to be completely intact except for possibly on the right side of the barrel (that's probably just a highlight in the photo, the blue looks pristine on all the other high points). It looks like there might be miniature scratches on the barrel and ejector shroud, or that could be just some errant dust. It would be nice to see a better view of the front of the cylinder, but there doesn't seem to be evidence of much shooting at all. The fact that there is a reflection of the camera in the beautiful finish and the overall beauty of the thing means that you can probably call it at least a 99% gun.

I'm trying to improve my eye for grading, so if any of the pros disagree, please let me know!

Appreciate your comments & insight! I have never tried to put a % on a gun before. It is in my plans to be a range target gun. I will "baby" it's handling. Bob
 
Beautiful! I've never owned a beautiful .44 mag revolver like that one, but have shot one a lot. My MBH (much better half) has a Ruger .44 mag carbine from 1969 or so. Used to load for them a lot.

My very first 44 magnum was a -3 I bought new in about 87 AFS????.
I still have it.

My load is 7gr of 700X under a 240 LSWC in mag. brass. Approx. 985fps out of a 6-6 1/2" barrel. Do the math, that's 1000rds per pound of powder. I have shot so many of those loads that I had to replace the cylinder from flame cutting. It now has a -2 cylinder in it.
 
Forgot to add. Those grips are off an earlier gun probably a -2. -3's had the full cut out on the left. Those are gorgeous grips though.

I am NOT an expert, but it appears to me to be a 99%, based on NO wear in the obvious places, obviously great overall condition of the finish, and a visible turn line. Possibly some folks call this otherwise. It would be helpful to have a good photo of the front of the recoil shield.

Nice gun!
