Well I finally got to shoot my new 1911PD at the range today. I'll be calling S&W Monday to send it in for some work, here is what was happening.
1. Brass while being ejected from the pistol was hitting me in the forehead. This didn't happen during every shot but was happening quite frequently.
2. During the course of firing 200 rounds I had approximately 15 failures to feed, and 2 failures to extract.
3. There were also several times while releasing the slide onto a fully loaded magazine that it would not feed the first round into the chamber but would jam.

The ammunition I used was
100 rounds of Winchester White Box 230gr. Full metal jacket ball ammunition
100 rounds of Blazer Brass 230gr. Full metal jacket ball ammunition

When it was working right I enjoyed shooting it. It was very accurate, I hope S&W can take care of this for me.

Sorry to hear of the problems....I have one and so far so good....But Smith will make it right! Keep us posted.

Well I got my gun back from S&W this morning, they had it back to me in 7 days. I took it to the range this afternoon and ran 100 rounds through it with no problems at all. Their customer service was great to deal with and the fast turn around time made it even better. Now if I could find someplace that had some .45 ammo in stock I'd be doing real good.....

Congrats on the 1911PD, got one of those on my wish list (which is full of S&W). You got to post some pics of it. Smith and Wesson are one of the best Customer Services companies I have dealt with. Had to send my NIB 5906, shortly after I got it, and they had it back to me in 10 days. Run flawlessly ever since. Unfortunately, ammo on the other hand is still hard to find in 45ACP, kind of have to stumble upon it. I still manage to see it at Wally World once in a great while.

Congrats on your new gun.

I hope Smith turns it around quickly for you. Let us know.

Good to hear the report. My 1911PD is one of my approved off duty guns. I put some Hogue finger groove stocks on it. Would LOVE it on duty as well. OOPS! The sheriff reads this stuff......

Another unlikely place to try is your True Value Hardware, they carry Remington products. I work at one in Southern Maine, and the owner doesn't keep much ammo in, but we can order it from the warehouse, which is located in Manchester, NH. Last I checked the warehouse was out, but has several on order--hopefully to arrive this month. They did have 9mm and .223 bulk packs in. Just a suggestion. Good luck in the search.

How about putting an order in to Cabella's on line? I did that a while back for Berry bullets for reloading. I got an out of stock notice and they indicated I would be notified when it came in. I was and went down to the store to pick it up. Maybe it isn't the same for loaded ammo. This way I didn't have to worry about checking to see if any had come in and hope to be there at the right time to get it.

Check out GEORGIA ARMS. They have it and are a great company. Been buying from them at gun shows for 20 years; agency I work for issues their ammo for duty and practice. Shipping might be a cost factor, but you might want to still visit them online.

I checked out the web site for Georgia Arms, They have .45acp in stock and will ship to Massachusetts.
But during the checkout it said they needed more info because MA. requires a gun license to buy ammo. I sent them an email to see exactly what they need, so I'll have to wait to hear from them before I can order.

Wish I could be of more help. My early production 1911 PD also had some eratic ejection issues andt a few FTF. I felt that the recoil was stiffer and accuracy not quite as good as my heavier 5" stainless S&W 1911's. I ddn't need/buy it for carry so eventually sold it off. Nice gun, just not for me.

I sent the required info to Georgia Arms and placed an order online. 1000 rounds of .45 and 1000 rounds of .40
Even with shipping I still saved over $200.00 for everything.
Looks like I'll be spending some quality time at the range..

did they say what they did to fix your gun? i was guessing adjusting the extractor. just curious JJ

They said they polished the feed ramp and replaced the extractor. It definately felt like it fed smoother when I chambered a round, and I haven't had any feed or ejection problems at all.

Good to hear of the success with Georgia Arms....and the 1911pd....I picked up an ammo can of their 45 ball at the gun show last weekend.

Yea I wish I was close enough to just stop in and pick up a couple of ammo cans full. Kind of a long drive though.....
