Got this NIB Model 29 yesterday from an out-of-state seller. I think they missed something at the factory. Or is this the new 2-tone look?

Very odd!

I assume its a M29- something.

What's the 'something' : the number after the dash?

As a fan of -3s or earlier, can I ask what possesse dyou to buy a current production 29 and not something with more... pedigree? Are they giving them away now? I have to think that if S&W is charging ~900 or more for one of the new ones, the few hundred difference between that and an older one could be money well spent some day. Or even now, from the looks of that. No offense meant.

No, they certainly aren't giving them away. And I don't take offense. I wanted a nice, shiny, new, no problem gun. Oh well.

I have not shopped for one of the newer vintages of model 29 but that certainly does not look right. I suspect they forgot to polish the barrel? Let us know how this works out.

I bought a brand new mod 29 like yours a month ago. Beautiful high polished blue throughout the whole gun. Shoots great, very accurate. Looks like they forgot to polish the barrel on that one. I'm sure S&W will make it right.

I bought a classic brand new last Oct. It was bright and shiny. There is def something not kosher…..
Like the OP, I wanted a BNIB 29.
Let his know what SW says…..

I don't think I would be doing any future business with that seller. To not let you know before the sale about this "issue" with this gun is inexcusable. Now you have to go through the hassle of returning/exchanging it and perhaps they don't even have another NIB to exchange. Its not like you are buying dog biscuits online. It's nearly $1K of your money!

I talked to the dealer from whom I bought the gun. He has another NIB 29 that he will exchange with me. And he will deal with S&W on getting this one either fixed or replaced. He has been good about it.

That's great news for you. You'll probably be very happy with your 29-10. The people I know who actually own them and shoot them seem to have good things to say about them. The few I have seen look to be very well made, but do check the barrel (interior) on the new gun. If you don't care for the extremely thin stocks, they are easily replaced.

There is no shame at S&W these days. They use final buyers as their QC-final inspection department.

I bought a NIB 22-4 nickel-plated a few years back and there were areas that had never been touched by finishing or buffing. They were good at taking it back and fixing. I got the same serial number back.

I am surprised at S&W. I assume several people saw this gun before it shipped. I don't know how you miss something like a whole barrel being unfinished.

NIB with a turn line like that? Three test shots at the factory don't give you a line like that. That and the totally weird finish suggests that either someone at S&W screwed up big time, or something's fishy with the seller. Serious question here: Exactly what kind of "out of state seller" is this? And did you buy the gun sight unseen or see photos of it or what?

And the cylinder looks messed up, too, or is that just fingerprints and poor lighting?

And take a look at the buggered up sideplate screw under the cylinder. I think someone's had this gun apart. I also think someone's trying to put one over on you.

NIB? I'm sorry, I just can't buy into that. No way do I believe this gun left S&W looking like that.

This is just wrong.
