Ants in N Al. are in season. Anyone know of any home remedies or chemicals to whack them..... I've used bleach and it does make them move the nest.... Triazicide will kill on contact, but the survivors will move the bed. This is a yearly thing....kill and eradicate all the nest you can.... next year start over.

I fight fire with fire ,soak mound with gas ,let it soak in and light it! They don't like it and those that aren't dead will move and if you keep after them they will eventually leave your property. After you have burned them use the hose to level the mound, rake and sod.

I will light the first ant bed in 5 minutes.....with gasoline

Got to kill the queen or the pile just moves.
Use a good ant bait like AMDRO.

I have 0 ant beds in my yard and I dont use gas I use AMDRO.

They are yr round in STX.

Killing the queen is ONLY way

And your gas and fire aint getting to the queen.

Gasoline! :D Kill them with FIRE!

BAD IDEA!

Boiling water works better and is much safer. It's still only a spot treatment, but will make you feel good if you've been stung a few times.

You really need to go for a wide area eradication program. There are many effective baits these days. Check with your county agricultural extension agent/office to see what they are recommending these days.

I've been doing nasty things to imported fire ants most all of my life, and still love to drive over and shoot wet mounds, but baits have been the only thing that I've seen that would control them.

USE A QUEEN KILLER.

A chemical bait that the workers take to the queen will kill THAT mound, BUT another pops up elsewhere. I keep a qt shaker top bottle of the stuff at multiple locations & bring it with me wherever I go in the yard. THEY ARE WINNING. It's much worse than it was 16 years ago & I'm becoming more allergic to their bites. Now I have to go take a Benadryl when bitten, they never used to bother me. :(

A retired Horticulture teacher, I cut the schools grass now for extra gun money. Have found spot treatment will make the bunch move a few feet. If I take a granular soil insecticide and spread with fertilizer spreader over the entire area fireants are gone for 3 to 4 months. They will slowly come back if you dont retreat.

Amdro or similar works well. I moved to north Florida and went from cockroaches and similar insects to LOTS of ants. Lowes's had something besides Amdro that REALLY works as well; you spread it out and around the pile about 3-4 (make that FEET) to kill than all and prevent them renesting.

I just don't like pesticides/herbicides in my area. Gasoline is bad enough but not nearly on the level of the other options. Think agent orange ,ddt, roundup, etc.

I use hot coffee with the grounds. I put used grounds and water in a large saucepan, heat to boil, then dump the whole mess on the nest. I repeat daily until the problem is resolved - usually less than a week. Rain helps.

Fire ants have been in Florida a LOOOOOOONG time! I can't remember the first time I encountered them, but it was probably in early childhood. I use a product called Orthene. I like to run over a big mound with the lawn mower-gets em really agitated, then I sprinkle the Orthene on them. Kills them in about an hour.

What's wrong with AMDRO? I had a nest pop up and I used this stuff to nuke it. Worked great, right away. Didn't burn anything down and it cost like $6.

I've tried Raid and some other ant bait. Both worked great no ants for several years. One reason I can't remember the brand of the last one I used, the other reason is old age.

I make sure the dogs can't get to it. Might have a sweet taste. I use roof tiles to cover the bait until the ants are gone.
