Firearms Instructor Killed in NV.

Man is that a bummer. That girl is old enough to let that scar her pretty badly; and how unfortunate for the man who could have been a husband and a father. The article is pretty thin.

Bummer all the way around for all involved.

Even with adults this can be a problem and a runaway sub gun is a real threat. We were taught very specific procedures to insure this didn't happen when I was filling in at my local club. They have around 30 full auto rentals and I don't ever remember one getting out of control.
If I remember correctly an 8 year old boy was killed when an UZI got away from him a couple of years ago.
The "mainstream news media" of course will make hay with this kind of story.

Very sad story. The instructor had a wife and family. The little girl will never forget.
Here in western MA there was an incident at a machine gun shoot where an 8 YO boy was given a mini Uzi because the larger guns were too heavy. His dad (an ER doctor) insisted that he be allowed to shoot it, and the 15 YO range officer gave in. The gun rotated upward under full auto fire, and a 9 mm. round struck him in the head with fatal results as Dad and his brother watched.

I remember hearing about an incident at Knob Creek involving a mini-gun. It wasn't secured and when fired by a youngster it flipped backwards and crushed the shooter. The only positive was that it had stopped firing. There is always a large crowd behind the firing line during the machine gun shoots at the Creek. When I let my grandson (12) fire my Uzi, I only loaded two rounds at a time at first until I was sure he could handle it. And then I was always inches away.

I'll state it again as perhaps it was overlooked above. We who manage machine gun shoots are trained to position yourself to avoid a runaway sub gun like the ones above.

I'm curious as to what constitutes an"instructor" in this vague sketchy story.

I started with a pop gun....

I started with a pop gun, then got a BB gun, then a single shot .22 to a semi .22 to center fire everything. I am very cautious about semi pistols especially because they have so many configurations and manual(s?) of arms ESPECIALLY when someone else is going to be shooting them besides me.

I don't understand a 15 YO range officer. On both of my ranges anyone under 18 has to be supervised. Regardless of age, the RO the THE final authority on what is safe. If he didn't understand that then he was not qualified to be an RO. And if the father didn't understand that then HE wasn't qualified to be on the range.
