Neighbors were having a friendly competition to see who could send up something bright enough to get the streetlights to turn off. Pulled it off a couple of times.
As I commented earlier, I love fireworks, but I have an intense distain for those that don't follow safe practices. Saw an example last night, was at a friends big 4th of July get together and one guy was handing lite sparklers to little kids (ages 3-7) with no supervision. And when he left his chair, all kinds of bigger stuff was on the ground along with a torch lighter. Duh!

I attend a friend's licensed "home" professional fireworks display launched over a lake every year. Better and safer than the city's display.
How does Daisy handle them?

Clark County LE nabbed over 17,000 lbs (yes, seventeen thousand) of illegal fireworks coming in from the rez or Nye County.

I'd like to take a 14 lb sledge to the hands of the yahoo who decided that 0035 this morning was a good time to shoot off the last of his mortars. I can bet how that came about. Yahoo#1 gets on his cell to tell Yahoo#2 that he has just been chased off where he was letting stuff off and still has some left. Yahoo#2 then invites him over, "We haven't had LE or the FD around here, come quick." Idjits.

And in an astounding evening, I did not hear 1... not even 1 ammo dump. And I can hear miles here. I must admit there were plenty of revelers last night. I can't believe the amount of money people spend on fireworks. I did hear one really very loud explosion. Someone probably mixed up a large batch of binary

She does not like them. Fortunately we live far enough out where there is typically not a lot of activity close by but when there is she curls up into the deepest darkest corner of her dog house and rides it out.

We had a Chesapeake. Big Dog...Big 140 pounds. She wasn't overly happy about fireworks... gunfire did not bother her always ready to hunt...But oh my...Thunder storms If we had a T storm...you had to let her in the house...or she would come through the storm or screen door to the house...if we were home...otherwise she was back about as far as she cold get in one of the stalls in the barn. and if we came home in the midst of a storm..... First to the door
My brother and his buddies used to have a 4th party on an island every year. Of course they had all kinds of fireworks. Between WA laxer laws and the presence of Reservations, the displays were pretty epic for a civilian enterprise. One year, one of the guys bought a ton of great fireworks. I think he got an insurance settlement or something and he went nuts. Fast forward to the night of the Fourth. We're setting off so much stuff that people coming back from watching the pro displays are pulling over to watch ours.
Right in the middle of the whole damn show, rich boy brings out his most expensive firework. It was a 3-3.5 foot floating aircraft carrier/battleship. You put it in the water, lit the fuse and it would start moving under it's own propulsion then "planes" would shoot off it as well as missles, and the "guns" on the boat began "shooting" with big bangs and lots of smoke. It said on the label it was a 5 minute firework. Cost him multiple c-notes. He hypes it up and shows everybody. "This is gonna be awesome!"
We get towards the end of our fireworks, except for some odds and ends and a 12-mortar finale we have set up and he decides he's gonna light the boat. He takes it down sets it in the water and lights the fuse. Sure enough, the boat starts to motor around. Then, just as the first of the planes was about to take off, another friend's Golden jumps in the water and swamps the whole thing putting it out. The rest of us are all rolling on the ground, laughing, and he's just staring where the boat is slowly sinking, flabbergasted that he spent all that money for nothing. The dog just went back to his owner, staring up at her and wagging his tail, pleased he had been able to drive off the invasion fleet and "saved" us all. ALthough he deserved it, politics got in the way of him being awarded a medal. He did get some teriyaki steak for his efforts though.

Neighbor a couple doors down sparked up at least $5K worth. Better than the city and the Lakefront parking is full by noon. Outstanding. I was going to take a pic of the "waste pile" coming back from lunch but he had already loaded it in his giant work truck for the dump. Oops, they close at noon on Saturday

Just back in town last night from a quick trip to see Mom and her sister, took in a local VFW display fired over a lake.
Thought it funny how some folks will drive to a fireworks show and probably wonder why their car alarms keep sounding.

Alright enough with the fireworks already. Here it is the 7th and one of the neighbors lighting of rockets just set my Christmas decorations on fire
